Tinarie van Wyk Loots and Paul du Toit
will appear in HEMELRUIM.

The multiple award-winning and critically acclaimed production HEMELRUIM comes to the Fugard Theatre Studio for a limited run from 25 April to 13 May. The production will be performed in Afrikaans, with English surtitles.

Featuring a stellar South African team of cast members Paul du Toit and Tinarie van Wyk Loots and director Nico Scheepers, HEMELRUIM has been lighting up the festival circuit with rave reviews and Best Actress awards at Aardklop and the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees for Van Wyk Loots, as well as a 2016 Fiesta award. HEMELRUIM is the translation of the runaway Broadway and West End hit CONSTELLATIONS by Nick Payne, which won the 2012 Evening Standard Award for Best New Production. The play is a beautiful story of two souls, who keep drifting in and out of each others' lives, in an honest, raw and moving journey through the stars, filled with love, science and honey.

Nico Scheepers, who also created the design, music and translated the text for HEMELRUIM, comes to the Fugard hot off the run of his play MOEDERTAAL at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival, starring Sandra Prinsloo. Other of his acclaimed productions include WENTEL with Anna-Mart van der Merwe, ROOIVALK (which won the 2017 Kyknet Fiesta for Best Production) and the multiple-award winning AMPER VRYSTAAT. He is currently working on DIE FLIEK, a translation of Annie Baker's Pulitzer prize-winning THE FLICK, and will collaborate with Hennie van Greunen for a new production at the Innibos Festival this year. He comments on HEMELRUIM:

HEMELRUIM is a wonderful exploration of the universe, string theory, relativity, bee-keeping and love - how love might connect in parallel universes.

Previously seen on the Fugard Theatre stage in the sold-out run of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, Paul du Toit returns fresh from his Fleur du Cap Theater Award win of Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Musical for his incredible transition as Hedwig in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. He is also a much-loved screen actor in television shows such as BINNELANDERS and 7DE LAAN and on the big screen in films such as NOEM MY SKOLLIE, SEMI-SOET and LIEFLING.

In addition to her accolades for HEMELRUIM, Tinarie van Wyk Loots's awards include a Kanna for Best Actress in BABBEL and a Fleur du Cap nomination for her role as Titania in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. Other credits in her extensive career include DOGMA, DIE REBELLIE VAN LAFRAS VERWEY, DIE KERSIEBOORD, IN GLAS, LOT and In Glas, Lot, and ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA.

HEMELRUIM will run at the Fugard Studio Theatre, from 25 April to 13 May on Tuesdays through Saturdays at 20:00 nightly, with a 16:00 matinee performance on Saturdays. The Fugard Theatre is situated in the heart of District Six, on the corner of Harrington and Caledon Streets, Cape Town. Tickets cost R130 - R165 and can be booked online through Computicket, by phone on 0861 915 8000, or in person at any Shoprite Checkers outlet.
