Stefan Vermaak as Benjamin
in FIELA SE KIND

Lefra Productions is gearing up to stage a theatrical adaptation of Dalene Matthee's beloved novel, FIELA SE KIND, in 2017. This will be the company's third production of FIELA SE KIND, which proved to be widely popular with audiences in its first two stagings.

Frans Swart, who will produce and direct FIELA SE KIND, says that he is excited to be able to tell the wonderful story of Fiela once again. Set in the forests of Knysna in the nineteenth century, FIELA SE KIND tells the story of a woman of colour, Fiela, who adopts an abandonEd White child, only to have him taken away years later to live with a white family that claims the child is their lost son.

This particular production will premiere at Woordfees in Stellenbosch, after which it will be seen on the Oppiwater Arts Festival.

Lefra Productions is holding auditions for the children who play crucial roles in the production. Available roles include for young actors include Benjamin (10 - 14 years old); Nina (10 - 14 years old); Willem/Kristoffel (12 - 16 years old); David/Tollie (12 - 16 years old) and Emma/Kitty (14 - 18 years old).

Swart says that these roles, especially Benjamin, are fantastic for children who have an interest in the theatre and says that although it may be beneficial if children who audition have already had some training in drama, this is by no means a formal requirement. One FIELA SE KIND alumnus that has gone on to carve out a career in the industry is Stefan Vermaak, who played Benjamin under the direction of Sandra Prinsloo.

Lefra Productions is also auditioning for the adult roles of Lukas, Nina and Aunt Gertjie/Mali as well as two tracks of multiple male character roles.

Interested parties should email their CVs and a recent photograph to email Lefra Productions by 2 December 2 at 13:00. For more information, please contact Charl Senekal on 011 815 3000.
