The York Theatre Company honored legendary musical theatre writing team Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt (The Fantasticks, I Do, I Do!, 110 in the Shade, Celebration) with the 2017 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre at the 26th Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala on Monday evening, December 4, 2017 at The Asia Society (725 Park Avenue). Last night The York Theatre Company honored the musical theatre writing team of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt in a Fantastick gala concert and award ceremony directed by Richard Jay-Alexander. The 2017 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre was presented to the legendary team (The Fantasticks, I Do, I Do!, 110 in the Shade, Celebration) at the event held at the Asia Society on Park Ave in NYC and BroadwayWorld was there. Pear Theatre opens its 16th season with Sarah Ruhl's funny and insightful "In the Next Room, or, the Vibrator Play." Set at the dawn of the age of electricity, this comedy explores how women's issues are addressed in a patriarchal society that rarely gives them credence or consideration. "In the Next Room" is directed by Caroline Clark, and previews on September 7. Press and Opening Night is Friday, September 8, followed by a champagne gala. The show runs Thursdays through Sundays, through October 1. Walnut Street Theatre opens its landmark 207th season with the sparkling Broadway musical featuring the classic sounds of Cole Porter, HIGH SOCIETY. Directed by Frank Anzalone, with choreography by Mary Jane Houdina, this Philadelphia premiere began previews on September 8th, opens on September 16th and runs through October 25th on the Walnut's Mainstage. Abingdon Theatre Company -- which has produced more than 60 new American plays in its 17-year history -- continues its 2010-2011 Season with the New York premiere of HOW I FELL IN LOVE by Joel Fields, a writer for TV's 'Ugly Betty' and 'Raising the Bar' and winner of Abingdon's 2009 Christopher Brian Wolk Award for excellence in playwriting, with previews set to begin January 21, prior to its official press opening on January 30 at the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex's Dorothy Strelsin Theatre (312 West 36th Street) in Manhattan.

Actors Equity held a celebration for the 60th Anniversary of the Gypsy Robe on Monday night, October 25th at Sequoia on Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport where past gypsy robe winners came back to reminisce and to celebrate.
