Award winning EMH Productions continues its sixth season of provocative and compelling theatre with the dynamic and chilling two character drama TOYER: An Unavoidable Tragedy by Hollywood playwright and actor Gardner McKay.  This timely 90 minute play delves into the mind games of a serial lobotomist of women, dubbed The Toyer by local LA police.  The struggle for power over one another, the willingness to believe what we want to, to buy into what a person is telling us because the truth is too awful to face speaks to the state of our nation in this current climate of political unrest.  TOYER will run Thursday October 12th (preview) through Tuesday October 31st, 2017 at the Ooley Theatre located at 2007 28th Street, Sacramento, CA 95818. 

Leonard Bernstein was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He took piano lessons as a boy and attended the Garrison and Boston Latin Schools. At Harvard University, he studied with Walter Piston, Edward Burlingame-Hill, and A. Tillman Merritt, among others. Before graduating in 1939, he made an unofficial conducting debut with his own incidental music to 'The Birds,' and directed and performed in Marc Blitzstein's 'The Cradle Will Rock.' Then at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he studied piano with Isabella Vengerova, conducting with Fritz Reiner, and orchestration with Randall Thompson. 

This fall, the New Museum will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a dynamic series of exhibitions, programs, and publications.

By popular demand Steppenwolf's LookOut Series extends its rock 'n' roll production of the solo play, How To Be A Rock Critic (Based on the Writings of Lester Bangs) by award-winning theatre artists Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, starring Erik Jensen (The Walking Dead, Mr. Robot) as Lester Bangs and directed by Jessica Blank (Made in Jersey, The Namesake). Described as "a fascinating window into one of the last century's most compelling and fearless critics," (Chicago Tribune), the 80-minute production continues for three additional performances through July 29, 2017 in the 1700 Theatre, situated behind Front Bar: Coffee & Drinks (drinks permitted in the theater).

Steppenwolf's LookOut Series has announced their summer lineup, which will feature a three week run of the acclaimed solo play, How To Be A Rock Critic (Based on the Writings of Lester Bangs) by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, the award-winning writers of The Exonerated and Aftermath. The show will run July 6 - July 22 in Steppenwolf's 1700 Theatre (1700 N Halsted St); the press performance is Friday, July 7 at 8pm.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, located at The Graduate Center, CUNY, will highlight works from the classical canon of Arab plays on Wednesday, April 19, and present readings of rarely seen plays by Black playwrights on Monday, May 22 and Tuesday, May 23.

San Francisco Opera General Director Matthew Shilvock and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced plans for the 2017-18 repertory season. The Company's 95th season will open Friday, September 8 with a gala performance of Giacomo Puccini'sTurandot led by Maestro Luisotti and an international cast starring Martina Serafin, Maria Agresta and Brian Jagde.

The writings of Walter Benjamin, the influential German Jewish philosopher and cultural critic, are the basis for a contemporary art exhibition at the Jewish Museum from March 17 through August 6, 2017. The Arcades: Contemporary Art and Walter Benjamin will examine themes in the author's magnum opus The Arcades Project via contemporary artworks, in media ranging from photography and video to sculpture and painting, and annotations by poet Kenneth Goldsmith.

Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the schedule for Lincoln Center's seventh White Light Festival, running from October 16 through November 16, 2016. The international multidisciplinary festival, which takes its name from a quotation by the Estonian composer Arvo Part, is an annual exploration of the power of art to illuminate our interior and communal lives. 'I could compare my music to white light which contains all colors. Only a prism can divide the colors and make them appear; this prism could be the spirit of the listener.' - Arvo Part

Installed in three locations including the former Monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore, now home to the Fondazione Giorgio Cini (the first contemporary Chinese art installation), The Armenian Catholic Monastery on San Lazzaro Island and Venice International University (VIU) on San Servolo Island, the exhibition will be presented in collaboration with the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and is curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and Ambassador Umberto Vattani. There will be a Vernissage and performance by Qin Feng at the former Monastery of San Giorgio Maggiore on May 19 beginning at 6pm, a seminar with the artist and curators on May 26 at the Navy Officer's Club at the Arsenale from 4pm-7pm and a press conference at VIU on May 27 at 3pm.

Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans will conclude its Inaugural Season with Tennessee Williams: Weird Tales, a collection of three unique Tennessee Williams one-act plays. The night will feature the rarely produced Steps Must Be Gentle as well as two World Premiere Williams plays: Ivan's Widow and The Strange Play. Opening weekend will coincide with the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival.
