Molly Pope Returns to Joe's Pub for Live Album Taping, 5/25
by A.A. Cristi - May 16, 2017

Critically-acclaimed cabarettist MOLLY POPE returns to Joe's Pub at the Public Theater with her show 'An Audience with Molly Pope' for a live album recording on Thursday, May 25 at 9:30 PM. Drawing from a catalogue of recontextualized pop, theater and standards, the 'viscerally thrilling alto' (Time Out New York) wryly constructs and deconstructs herself with her signature neo-retro style.  Part concert, monologue, sing-a-long and heart-to-heart, she echoes the heyday of Greenwich Village nightclubs in a current context. Ms. Pope's 'powerhouse vocals and sassy wit' (Out.com) paint the madcap picture of a 21st century singer with the band. Tedd Firth will lead an all-star five-piece band. You are all cordially invited to 'An Audience with Molly Pope.'

BWW Review: OUR LADIES OF PERPETUAL SUCCOUR, Duke of York's Theatre
by Jenny Gilbert - May 16, 2017

From The Sound of Music to Gareth Malone's The Choir, the redemptive power of choral singing has provided a wealth of feel-good stories. The discipline, the communal spirit, the beauty of the music bring out the best in everyone. Just not the 17-year-old pupils of Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour, a fictional convent school in the Scottish coastal town of Oban. For them, the prospect of a trip to Edinburgh to compete in a choral competition is merely a chance to be off the leash for an afternoon and 'get mental'.

People's Light presents World Premiere of PROJECT DAWN
by A.A. Cristi - May 3, 2017

This gritty, gripping, and shockingly funny world premiere tosses audiences into a revolutionary Philadelphia court designed by a passionate group of women. Every day these lawyers, judges, parole officers and staff members work to transform the lives of women repeatedly convicted for prostitution. In her daring and vital new play Project Dawn, playwright Karen Hartman probes the thin lines between freedom and slavery, activism and obsession, for women on both sides of the law. Inspired by Hartman's extensive, first-hand research inside Philly's real-life court system, and cast with seven actresses who play multiple characters, this production represents the first world premiere to emerge from the acclaimed New Play Frontiers Residency & Commission program at People's Light. People's Light is located at 39 Conestoga Road, Malvern, PA 19355. For tickets, call 610.644.3500 or visit peopleslight.org. This production is sponsored by PECO, and supported by grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
