Daniel Beaty gives a tour-de-force performance, playing up to 40 characters in The Tallest Tree in the Forest, a solo play, which he also wrote. It tells the life story of Paul Robeson, a towering figure among our nation's prominent African-Americans. Renowned director Moises Kaufman returns to BAM (The Laramie Project, 2013 Winter/Spring) to direct this show which has delighted and enlightened audiences from Kansas City, to LA, La Jolla, and Washington, DC. The show runs Mar 22-29, 2015.

Celebrated American pianist Simone Dinnerstein will join the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra to perform the Piano Concerto in G major by Maurice Ravel in concerts at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts tonight, February 27 and Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 8pm.

Continuing its 2014-15 Script in Hand playreading series featuring women playwrights, Westport Country Playhouse will present Pearl Cleage's humorous and gripping "Flyin' West," on Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. Director is Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and curator of the playreading series. Tickets are $20 each.

The first thing you notice when you step into the theater for A Noise Within's THE THREEPENNY OPERA is Frederica Nascimento's stunningly vivid set design. It's a deconstruction in which none of the elements are hidden: lighting instruments are in plain sight; pieces of scenery hang suggestively from the rails but without trying to make a complete picture; furniture litters the upstage areas and props are scattered about; the band is in plain view tuning up on one side and actors in rags are already roaming the audience.

Riccardo Muti, Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, returns in January 2015 for several weeks of concerts with the CSO at both Symphony Center and Carnegie Hall. Muti's winter residency begins with performances in Chicago—on January 15, 16 and 17—of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring pianist Yefim Bronfman. The program closes with Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1 (Winter Daydreams), part of the complete cycle of Tchaikovsky symphonies that Muti leads in the current season.

TV's Dallas meets Chekhov in Richard Pearson Thomas' new comic opera 'A Wake or a Wedding,' receiving its New York premiere by Encompass New Opera Theatre, Nancy Rhodes, Artistic Director, November 6-16 at Baruch Performing Arts Center, 55 Lexington Avenue. The sophisticated farce, with music and libretto by Thomas, will be performed by an ensemble of eight superb singers starring Joy Hermalyn, whose credits include Broadway productions of Candide, Cyrano, Fiddler on the Roof, Baz Luhrmann's La Bohene, and numerous City Center Encores!, to name a few. She leads an exceptional cast who have appeared with opera companies in the U.S. and abroad.
