Today, at Roy Thomson Hall, Music Director Peter Oundjian unveiled the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's 95th performance season.

Let me start by saying that I've never seen the original movie of "Bullets Over Broadway" all the way through. I'm just not a Woody Allen fan. So a musical interpretation of it didn't exactly thrill me. So what about the current production turned me around? Was it the story? It's cute but nothing life changing. Was it the music? All the songs are minor adaptations of old standards from the 1920's and 30's so not really. No, it was the cast currently playing at the Paramount that took this fun show and amped it up to zany hilarity and made it an absolute delight.

Roundabout Theatre Company has confirmed the lineup for its fifth annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series this morning, a five-night event that includes nightly readings of new works written and directed by emerging artists, as well as curtain speeches by Roundabout Underground artist alumni and post-show receptions. The Reading Series will feature new works by Ben Steinfeld, Alexander Gemignani, Jireh Breon Holder, Sylvia Khoury, Martin Zimmerman and Jessica Moss.

As a part of their innovative new Membership model, Third Rail announced their Summer and Fall programming at a public event on Monday night. 'In an effort to keep pushing ourselves to innovate,' says Artistic Director Scott Yarbrough, 'this is the first step in a new process. The third book in the romantic suspense series, the Cavelli Angel Saga, by local author involves a deathbed promise that propels two unwilling hearts to risk becoming collateral damage when love faces off with vengeance. After he made a deathbed promise to Big Mike, Gabe finds himself responsible for the man's young, educated-out-east daughter and tries to save the unwilling damsel in distress from a crooked Prohibition man. As more threats unravel, old enemies come out of the shadows and force Charity and Gabe to band together against decades old, dark secrets. The historical tale delves into 1926 Chicago and the turbulent times of that post war decade. With captivating characters, a keep-you-guessing plot, and detailed historical information, Russo takes you through a realistic depiction of the life and struggle of her heroine during the period. The Cavellis are a large, hard-working, Italian immigrant family-not unlike Russo's own family as both her maternal and paternal grandparents came to America in the 1920's. 'As a child, I loved to hear stories from my Nonna's era. I have a picture of my grandparents-she's wearing a cloche hat and rolled stockings, and he's wearing the popular straw boater,' says Russo. 'I always thought the 1920's was an interesting and important time for women. We finally got the vote in 1920-after only petitioning Congress for a little over a hundred years. And then hemlines went up and stockings rolled down, brazen witness to the fact the modern woman-gasp-wasn't wearing a corset. The road to equality was a long one and it started back then.'
