The Cleveland Orchestra and the Lakewood community are joining together to present The Cleveland Orchestra at home in Lakewood, a neighborhood residency that began on February 17, 2014, when Cleveland Orchestra Assistant Conductor Brett Mitchell visited the Lakewood High School Chamber Orchestra to assist in preparation for an Ohio Music Educators Association State Ensemble Adjudicated Event. The four-month residency of educational programs and performances for all ages culminates in an intensive week of free events from May 17-24, 2014. The centerpiece of the Orchestra's activities in Lakewood will be a public Cleveland Orchestra concert led by Music Director Franz Welser-Most at Lakewood Civic Auditorium on Saturday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. A delayed broadcast of the concert will be presented by WVIZ/PBS ideastream, and a live broadcast of the concert will air on WCLV 104.9 ideastream. Tickets will be distributed throughout Lakewood beginning on Saturday, April 26. (See list of distribution locations below.) The television broadcast will feature a composite of community collaborations, musical performances, and joint events and activities throughout Lakewood.

The world premiere production of the brand new musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway, written by Woody Allen and based on the screenplay by Allen and Douglas McGrath for the 1994 film, will begin preview performances tomorrow, March 11 and officially open Thursday, April 10, 2014 at The St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). The new musical will be directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Occasionally, when I am stuck creatively or wanting to be around the actors in the rehearsal room or need to assistance in focusing, I will play the same piece of music over and over. I have meditated on Dvorak when considering the relationship between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West in Vita & Virginia, on Bach's cello concertos when considering Julius Caesar, on Bartok when constructing A Midsummer Night's Dream, Zoe Keating for The Tempest, Rachmaninoff for Hamlet, and many others.

Concert aficionados from around the country will want to mark their calendars for Music Mountain, America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, when it kicks off its gala 85th Anniversary Season beginning Saturday, June 7th! To commemorate the milestone, Music Mountain will continue their season past Labor Day - making the 85th Anniversary Season the longest running season since the 1930s! The summer will include returning chamber ensembles, first time guests and the ever-popular Saturday Evening Twilight Series featuring Jazz, Country, and Folk Music. 'East Towards Home' by Billy Yalowitz brings to life three generations of Jewish left-wing culture in New York City, combining tales of radical choreographers of the 1930's and 40's, texts and songs from Woody Guthrie, and first-person stories of the author's NYC Jewish left-wing childhood in the 1960's and 70's. With loose-limbed storytelling, visual projections, animation, modern dance and live music, it offers a personal and impassioned look at the culture and history of the American Jewish radical left-wing community at a time when this legacy is in danger of passing into obscurity. Theater for the New City will present the play's world premiere run January 16 to February 2, directed by David Schechter.

The festival begins on FEARnet today, October 14th and moves to EPIX on Thursday, October 17th with a special presentation of the original Carrie (1976) starring Sissy Spacek on the eve of the latest film adaptation of the Stephen King novel, starring Chlo? Grace-Moretz and Julianne Moore. Following the film, EPIX will present a World Premiere sneak peek at the new movie (see full schedule below).

Theatre UCF opens the fun and rambunctious musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone on Thursday, October 17 at the Main Stage Theater on the UCF Campus. The play runs through November 2 and includes guest artists at every performance and one performance with sign language interpretation.
