Join one-of-a-kind mother, Rose, and her two talented daughters as they search for fame in Pittsburgh CLO's production of GYPSY, tonight, July 10, through July 19 at the Benedum Center. This entertaining musical is complete with memorable performances, mother-daughter struggles and the hardships of show business life, all while set during the infamous vaudeville era.

The McKittrick Hotel (542 West 27th Street), home of the immersive theater spectacle Sleep No More, announces a summertime rooftop film series curated by film and television icon/comedienne Amy Poehler beginning on July 14, 2015 and continuing throughout the summer and early fall atop The McKittrick, the one-stop nightlife destination in Chelsea. 

One of the greatest musicals of all time, WEST SIDE STORY, has been turned into an exhibit by the Library of Congress. According to the Library of Congress, the exhibition is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this renowned musical.

 Theater for the New City's award-winning Street Theater Company opens its 39th annual tour August 8 with 'Teach It Right, or, Right to Teach,' a rip-roaring musical which tackles the challenges and struggles facing public education in NYC. Free performances will tour City streets, parks and playgrounds throughout the five boroughs through September 20. Book, lyrics and direction are by Crystal Field; the musical score is composed and arranged by Joseph Vernon Banks. (Schedule follows at bottom of this document.)

'If music be the food of love, play on.' Even before the invention of the musical comedy (more on that later), William Shakespeare knew the importance of music in telling stories on stage. For our March feature, my colleague Jeff Walker and I thought that instead of marking the Ides of March with songs about murder, betrayal, and fate, we would focus on the synergy between showtunes and Shakespeare.

This spring Kurt Peterson and Stephenie Skyllas will release a digitally mastered, archival recording of 'When Everything Was Possible - A Concert (with comments)' as memorial tribute to Victoria Mallory. Recorded live at New York City Center on April 29, 2012, 'When Everything Was Possible' was a memorable evening of song and story featuring Kurt Peterson and Victoria Mallory, in what would be her final public stage performance. Mallory, one of the brightest lights of Broadway's Golden Era, tragically passed away from pancreatic cancer on August 30, 2014.

In the final episode of Shakespeare Uncovered - Series II, Joseph Fiennes takes a look at Shakespeare's most often performed play, Romeo and Juliet, and the relevance it has in our world today. It is the story of two teenagers whose deep, profound love heals a deeply pathetic hatred between warring families and leaves the audience with a puzzling redemption. Love and death, conflict and pride, this play has it all.

To mark the Centenary of Arthur Miller's birth and the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Richard Beecham will direct a revival of Miller'sPlaying for Time in the Crucible. Beecham directs Kate Adams (Helene), Noa Bodner (Esther), Pascale Burgess (Elzvieta), Imogen Daines (Etalina),Emma Darlow (Liesl), Holly De Jong (Schmidt), James Duke (Mengele / Kapo / Cellist / Paul), Amanda Hadingue (Alma Rose), Melanie Heslop(Marianne), Rebecca Jenkins (Varya), Kate Lynn-Evans (Mandel), Maeve O'Sullivan (Greta / Olga), Sian Phillips (Fania), Danny Scheinmann (Schmuel / Captain Heinz / Second Chess Player / First Trooper), Augustina Seymour (Paulette/ Music Captain), Christopher Staines (Commandant Kramer / 1st Chess Player / SS Guard / Kapo / Pianist) and Alexia Traverse-Healy (Mala / Tchaikowska). Completing the cast are 17 members of Sheffield People's Theatre - the theatre's intergenerational acting company from across the region.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.
