The Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre (HDDT) will bring its innovative site specific dance artistry to the Glendale Public Library on Saturday, August 26th. Back in Circulation is the re-imagining of their classic work, Out of Circulation, first staged at Santa Monica Civic Library in 1993.

San Jose State University's Department of Film and Theatre presents Picasso at the Lapin Agile, written by Steve Martin. In this award-winning absurdist comedy, a fiery young Albert Einstein happens upon an equally youthful Pablo Picasso in a Parisian bar in 1904, when both are on the cusp of their first successes. They lock wits in a hilarious battle of ideas about painting, probability, lust, and the future of the world. This production will be directed by SJSU Theatre Arts Lecturer Kirsten Brandt with evening performances November 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11 at 7pm and one matinee performance November 9 at 11am. Performances take place at the Hammer Theatre Center, 101 Paseo De San Antonio, San Jose. Jacob's Pillow Dance Award recipient John Heginbotham and acclaimed illustrator and author Maira Kalman join forces in the world premiere of The Principles of Uncertainty, closing the Festival in the Doris Duke Theatre, August 23-27. Co-commissioned by the Pillow and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and developed during multiple Pillow Creative Development Residencies, The Principles of Uncertainty is an evening-length dance theatre work choreographed and directed by Heginbotham, designed by Kalman and inspired by her written and visual art, and set to a score composed, arranged, and curated by Brooklyn Rider and Silk Road Ensemble's Colin Jacobsen. Members of The Knights, Jacobsen's innovative chamber orchestra, will perform live, and Maira Kalman herself is also featured in the performance.

Recently, the esteemed Gelsey Kirkland Ballet has become the headquarters for lesser known pieces from some of the greatest Russian choreographers of all time. Continuing this tradition, Gelsey Kirkland Ballet announced today the next program of its 2016/2017 season will be Russian Treasures featuring Marius Petipa's hilarious one-act comedy Cavalry Halt, as well as pieces by Leonid Yakobson, Leonid Lavrovsky, and Kasyan Goleizovsky.
