Lantern Theater Company and the Fels Institute of Government will partner to host political economist Mark Blyth for George Bernard Shaw - Theater, Economics, and Social Justice on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 6 p.m. on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Presented in conjunction with the Lantern's current production of Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession, Blyth will explore the play's economic themes in this one-hour program moderated by Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon; an audience Q&A will follow. Members of the press are invited to attend. PICNIC, the 1953 Pulitzer Prize-winning play by William Inge about sexual repression, longing and disillusionment, and the narrow-minded limitations of life in a small Midwestern town, launches Palm Beach Dramaworks' 2015-2016 season on Friday, October 9 (8pm) at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre. Performances continue through November 8, with specially priced previews tonight and tomorrow, October 7 and 8.

Fourteen exceptionally talented singer-actors from the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany have been selected as finalists in the 2015 Lotte Lenya Competition, held annually by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music. They will compete for top prizes of $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 on Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Rochester, New York.

The first thing you notice when you step into the theater for A Noise Within's THE THREEPENNY OPERA is Frederica Nascimento's stunningly vivid set design. It's a deconstruction in which none of the elements are hidden: lighting instruments are in plain sight; pieces of scenery hang suggestively from the rails but without trying to make a complete picture; furniture litters the upstage areas and props are scattered about; the band is in plain view tuning up on one side and actors in rags are already roaming the audience.
