One could say that the Machine chose me first, then I chose it. Adapting Elmer Rice's 1923 expressionist juggernaut was the long-time dream of librettist Jason Loewith. Apparently he had approached other composers with the project to no avail. When he finally inquired as to my interest in the project in January of 2004, I was working as a sound designer on a show he was producing at the Next Theatre Company in Evanston, Illinois, where he served as Artistic Director. Up to that point, I had never written a musical, nor did envision myself writing one and I had never read, seen or even heard of Elmer Rice's The Adding Machine.

Museum of the Moving Image will present the most comprehensive U.S. retrospective of all of the Polish director's features, short films, early documentary work, and a marathon viewing of the Dekalog, from October 7 through November 6, 2016. The series will also include four posthumous works based on Kieslowski's unproduced screenplays.

You may recognize Anthony Lee Medina from your TV screens, but this week he begins his turn as Usnavi in the Theatre Under The Stars-mounted production of IN THE HEIGHTS. Today we catch up with Medina to talk about the show, the 'glamorous' life of a working performer, and the awesomeness of Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Performance artist Brian Lobel has spent 12 years creating innovative work out of difficult personal experiences and tough topics. He's now joined forces with Bryony Kimmings and Complicite to create the highly anticipated new musical A Pacifist's Guide to the War on Cancer, which premieres at Manchester's HOME on 20 September, then plays Exeter Northcott and the National Theatre.

No matter the song, style, or setting, Janice Hall, the multi-talented opera singer, cabaret chanteuse, and character actress, is her own master. She broke into the cabaret scene in 2010 in a big way with the 2011 Bistro Award Winner for Best Tribute Show and 2012 MAC Award Winner for Best Female Vocalist. The show that earned her those awards? 'GRAND ILLUSIONS: THE MUSIC OF MARLENE DIETRICH,' which Hall debuted in 2010 and will revive for one night on September 13 at 7:00 pm at the Metropolitan Room. Before Hall takes the stage this upcoming Tuesday night, we sat down for a discussion on career invention, reinvention, and versatility--- both Dietrich's and her own.

Evening Star Productions will leap even farther back into history, jumping from William Shakespeare (their recent production of A Midsummer Night's Dream played to appreciative audiences for three weeks in August) to Johannes Gutenberg when they produce Anthony King and Scott Brown's Gutenberg!  The Musical! which will open on September 15th, and run through October 2nd at Boca Raton's Sol Theatre.

It's a little challenging to reach Kim Delgrosso, the artistic director of the national award-winning Center Stage Performing Arts Studios in Orem. That's because she serves as an ambassador for dance throughout the United States, and a typical week might include hopping from state to state. This month alone Delgrosso has already promoted and adjudicated dance in Utah, New York, California and British Columbia.
