David Gilmore, Artistic Director, has confirmd details of the upcoming season of main house productions at the St. James Theatre. The 312 seat main house is an exciting alternative to the West End, staging a varied programme of quality plays and musicals and featuring excellent sightlines from every seat. The intimate studio space incorporates the very best of both established and emerging talent in the worlds of cabaret, music, comedy and theatre. The informal bar and brasserie on the ground floor, and the elegant Carrara restaurant on the first floor cater for all pre and post-theatre tastes. Earlier this month, the St. James Theatre was one of only seven theatres shortlisted for the My Theatre Matters! Most Welcoming Theatre Award out of over 225 theatre venues across the country.

3Arts is honored to announce the ten recipients of its 6th annual 3Arts Awards, presented to women artists, artists of color and artists with disabilities working in the performing, teaching and visual arts. The awards will be presented tonight, Monday, Oct. 21, by the 3Arts Board of Directors and Awards Host Committee in a celebratory gathering at the Museum of Contemporary Art. 3Arts has awarded over $1 million in total grants to more than 100 Chicago artists in the past six years.

Luisi also leads three revivals in the 2013-14 season: Bellini's La straniera, Offenbach's Les contes d'Hoffmann, and Verdi's Don Carlo, and conducts Philharmonia Zurich's 'Big Five' concert series, revealing why he is as venerated in the concert hall as he is in the opera house. Park Square celebrates the recent Minnesota History Center exhibit honoring of the Civil War, and rides the popularity of the Steven Spielberg-Tony Kushner movie Lincoln with the Midwest Premiere of MARY T. & LIZZY K. by Tazewell Thompson from Oct 18 - Nov 10. The play, which had its world premiere in March at Arena Stage in Washington, DC, focuses on the unique business relationship and complex friendship between Mary Todd Lincoln (played by five-time Emmy Award nominee Linda Kelsey) and her free mixed-race seamstress Lizzy Keckly (played by Sha Cage in her Park Square debut, hot off her success in Clyborne Park at The Guthrie).

Opera Lafayette, renowned for its interpretation of early French opera, announces the release of its ninth recording on the Naxos label, Pierre-Alexandre Monsigny's 1762 opéra-comique to a libretto by Michel-Jean Sedaine, Le Roi et le fermier. Artistic Director Ryan Brown conducts the Opera Lafayette Orchestra in this world premiere recording featuring tenor Thomas Michael Allen and baritone William Sharp in the title roles, with sopranosDominique Labelle and Yulia Van Doren, mezzo Delores Ziegler, tenors Tony Boutté and Jeffrey Thompson, and baritone Thomas Dolié. The recording has been selected as a Key Release by the Naxos label for August 2013 and will be available worldwide on August 27, 2013. The New American Playwrights Project at the Tony Award-winning, Utah Shakespeare Festival has selected L.A. playwright Tom Cavanaugh for the second time to participate in the company's premiere development theater workshop. He will develop his new play ADAM & YOSHI. Cavanaugh is the first out-of-state playwright to attend the program for a second time. In 2010, the Project developed his play BEHOLD, which explores what happens to a family when it loses a child in a school shooting caused by bullying. BEHOLD is now being considered for an Off-Broadway production in New York City and a TV movie with major cable networks in Los Angeles.
