The Film Society of Lincoln Center has announced that the November and December lineups for its ongoing Family Films series and Midnight Movies series.

Nancy Spero's repertoire of female figures run, dance, crawl, tumble, and strut across the page in the exhibition From Victimage to Liberation: Works from the 1980s & 1990s. This rarely-seen selection of Spero's collaged narratives show women transformed from historical contexts of suffering and subordination into protagonists in charge of their own destinies. From Victimage to Liberation is the first solo presentation of Spero's work in New York since her death in 2009. The exhibition will open to the public on January 2, 2013, and the opening reception will follow on January 10, 2013.

On Monday, October 15, 2012, Sir Elton John continued his humanitarian efforts to raise money for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and awareness programs across the United States, the Americas, and the Caribbean at the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF)'s 11th annual benefit An Enduring Vision held at Cipriani Wall Street (55 Wall Street). American Airlines, The Kraft Group, and Wells Fargo served as the Presenting Sponsors of the benefit, and the star-studded evening raised $2 million for the Foundation. THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' 1995 Album 'Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness' Hits 10 Million Sold

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' career-defining 1995 double album MELLON COLLIE & THE INFINITE SADNESS has earned Diamond certification by the RIAA for sales of 10,000,000 discs and digital equivalent per disc (5 million copies of the double album). This news comes in the midst of EMI Music's extensive reissue campaign honoring the legacy of the iconic alternative band. It continues December 3 in North America and December 4 internationally with the PUMPKINS' fourth album MELLON COLLIE & THE INFINITE SADNESS receiving the fully remastered treatment for the first time. This follows last year's acclaimed reissues of the band's groundbreaking first two albums, Gish (1991) and Siamese Dream (1993), as well as this past summer's Pisces Iscariot (1994), the band's third album.

American Thymele Theatre's NYC Euripides Summer Festival Series presents Euripides' rarely staged and timely play CHILDREN OF HERCULES from today, August 7th thru 11th with outdoor performances at the East River Park Amphitheatre (8/7 and 8/8), the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park (8/9) and at Theatre 500 in the Times Square Arts Center (8/11). Stephen Diacrussi directs a cast of 25 headed by Michael Raimondi, Diana Swinburne, Tara Bancroft, Stephen Powell, Nicholas Sattinger, Paul Kirchmeyr and Ian Scott. The chorus is led by David Bushman.

Samaya, A Benefit Album For Cheb i Sabbah, Release

When Cheb i Sabbah was diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2011, he reached out to friends, family, and fans for help and they responded with much needed funds for his health care costs. He also asked for something more dear to him than money: music. The double-album Samaya: A Benefit Album for Cheb i Sabbah (1002 NIGHTS) is the result of his outreach. Featuring 22 songs from friends spread across the planet, including Karsh Kale, Nitin Sawhney, Natacha Atlas, Bill Laswell, Bombay Dub Orchestra, Kailash Kher, Zakir Hussain and many others, as well as a mastering job by Brian 'Big Bass' Gardner, who has mastered every one of Chebi's records. All proceeds from its sales will go towards offsetting the cost of ongoing medical treatment.

Magic Johnson to Bring SOUL TRAIN to Broadway?

According to EW.com, Soul Train, the popular musical variety show that ran in syndication from October 1971 to March 2006, may be getting Broadway treatment, thanks to Magic Johnson. The former NBA star-turned-entrepreneur purchased the Soul Train brand in 2011 and has been considering reviving it via TV, print and stage outlets, among other ideas.
