Raven Theatre announces its 2019-20 Season, kicking off this fall with the Chicago premiere of Rachel Bonds' drama SUNDOWN, YELLOW MOON, directed by Artistic Director Cody Estle and featuring music and lyrics by The Bengsons. This warm, delicate play with music is an honest look at the hard work of holding a family together and re-connecting with what we've left behind.

First Floor Theater announces casting for its Chicago premiere of Halley Feiffer's blisteringly funny play I'M GONNA PRAY FOR YOU SO HARD, directed by Cole von Glahn.

The Paley Center for Media will present Shaping Our Nation's Story: African- American Achievements in Television Presented by Citi from February 1-28. Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Motown and the 100th birthday anniversary celebration of Jackie Robinson, this monthlong celebration will take place at the Paley Center's locations in New York City and Beverly Hills and will feature an interactive exhibit, family craft activities, education classes for high school students focusing on the civil rights movement, and screenings that take visitors on a nostalgic journey through the most significant African-American moments in television.

Emerging Australian pop-rock quartet, The Faim, is excited to kick off 2019 with their new single, “Fire.” Forbes premieres the track today, describing it as, “a driving, indie-pop earworm…with potential to take hold of an arena-sized crowd.” Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Linus (blink-182, 5 Seconds of Summer, Palaye Royale), the song is saturated with addictive pop-beats and dazzling guitar riffs, with the spotlight on frontman Josh Raven's soaring vocals. NFT Dance & Company will be a part of the two weeks of performing and visual arts that celebrate the diversity, energy, and excellence of artists and audiences from DC and beyond.

Country music hit-maker Lacy J. Dalton is up to something we're all going to love. Having built a successful career for herself in the world of country music, Dalton has been evolving her sound into the world of Americana since 2004. Today, she released a new 4 song EP titled Scarecrow. This new blend of deep, edgy music has taken Dalton's songwriting in a whole new different direction, sharing a side she's never shared before.

Stages Theatre Company is excited to announce its collaboration with New Native Theatre in creation and production of The Three Snow Bears. Now in its sixth season of supporting emerging female writers The Farm Theater has awarded their 2019/20 College Collaboration Project Commission to playwright Judith Leora. Ms. Leora will collaborate with Hillsborough Community College in Hillsborough, FL (fall 2019), Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, AL (winter 2020), and Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA (spring 2020). This will be Birmingham Southern College's second time participating in The Farm Theater's College Collaboration Project.

Fresh off the Bat Out of Hell rollercoaster, Christina Bennington plays her first solo concerts to a full house at The Crazy Coqs. This 'deep dive into all parts of [her] voice,' as Bennington described it, treats fans to 16 songs of varied styles and characters which beautifully showcase her range as a performer.

2018 was an amazing year for theatre in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and if the proposed seasons for area theatres are any indication, 2019 is going to be a great one, too. From classic plays to super contemporary ones, and of course, a decent amount of musicals, this year has a lot for theatregoers to look forward to. Here are some productions I'm particularly excited about in the coming months.

This artful, surprising and often-funny memory play that explores how we are shaped by the people who hurt us will play February 7 - March 24, 2019 on Raven's 99-seat East Stage, 6157 N. Clark St. (at Granville) in Chicago.

On the heels of its spectacular, sold-out run of the Yiddish language presentation of Fiddler on The Roof, National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) has announced the upcoming Winter-Spring 2019 season, which will include the civil-rights era inspired concert Soul to Soul, restored gems from the golden age of the Yiddish theater in From the Yiddish Rialto to the Silver Screen and the world premiere of the jazz opera Dear Erich, being presented with the New York City Opera.
