CBS News recently did a profile piece on the 'Renaissance of Theater on Long Island.' One of the theaters/acting companies featured in the news story was the Elmont Memorial Library Theatre - Home of Plaza Theatricals, Nassau County's only professional equity theater.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will host nine weeklong in-person residencies for 23 musical theatre writers of nine new musicals between June 27 and August 29.  Writers include Tony-nominee Beth Malone, Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls; Jonathan Larson winners Avi Amon, Sara Cooper, Ty Defoe, and Anna Jacobs and more.

'Hamilton' Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry will narrate the upcoming PBS documentary about singer Marian Anderson. 'Voice of Freedom' debuts February 15th at 9 p.m. ET. 

AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, the acclaimed signature history series on PBS, returns on Monday, January 11 with a new season of documentaries about extraordinary 20th-century Americans — some famous, some unsung — who left their marks on American history and culture.

The Fisher Center at Bard begins its 20/21 season of virtual works-focusing on healing and transformation in troubled times-with a Live Arts Bard (LAB) commission from 10-time Grammy nominated musician Meshell Ndegeocello's Chapter & Verse: The Gospel of James Baldwin, made in collaboration with acclaimed director Charlotte Brathwaite.

The 92nd Street Y Unterberg Poetry Center's fall season features critically-acclaimed novelists Marilynne Robinson and Zadie Smith, beloved American poet Billy Collins and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar, among others, in virtual events.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra's first-ever Tanglewood digital festival-designed to capture the beauty and spirit of the Tanglewood grounds-will feature artists and programs of the originally announced 2020 Tanglewood season, among other content.

Starting in July, Two River Theater will launch a series of benefit play readings. The selected readings reflect the past, present and future of the theater's diverse range of programming including reimagined classics and world premieres by the industry's most adventurous theater artists.

TimeLine Theatre Company has announced its 24th season. The company's entire 2020-21 subscription season will be presented at its longtime home in Chicago's Lakeview East neighborhood, located at 615 W. Wellington Avenue, and will feature two theatrical classics, a Chicago premiere, and the world premiere of a new play developed through TimeLine's Playwrights Collective.

Listen up godlings, a god is speaking. It has come to our attention in a recent staff meeting that no one working here has any idea what The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is really about. Well, thank the gods for yours truly, who is judging them all a little bit.

The drama works because of the intriguing way the characters' ideas about how to act in response to Marian Anderson's two provocative exclusions (first from Nassau Inn and then from Constitution Hall) shift repeatedly in response to new information, so that consensus is almost impossible to achieve, at least until the play's very end. Anderson seeks progress through song, unimpeachable behavior and an avoidance of politics; Albert Einstein wants an end to both racism and antisemitism, and by the end is very worried about the Bomb; Mary Church Terrell embraces confrontation because all else seems to fail; and Abraham Flexner tries hard to protect the Institute as a means of keeping the Holocaust from consuming absolutely all Jews, even though he can save only a few.

Consider the inconceivable.
