Jinho The Piper Ferreira returns to The Marsh Berkeley this November with his hard-hitting solo show Cops and Robbers: Hunter Poetry, in a revised production that includes musician WolfHawkJaguar and his band, live on stage. A piercing look into the dysfunctional relationship between law enforcement, the media, and the black community, Cops and Robbers: Hunter Poetry explores an officer-involved shooting and its devastating effects. Writer/performer Ferreira takes the viewer on an emotionally-charged ride with unexpected twists and turns, as he seamlessly travels through 17 characters, each with his or her own convictions, logic, and prejudices. Piper's driving performance is now scored with traditional African spiritual music, to fill out the emotional journey for audiences who often leave the theatre overwhelmed by this unflinching look deep into the workings of modern law enforcement.

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia presents the boundless sounds of the Cristina Pato Quartet on April 11, 2019, at 8pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. Cristina Pato is a musical force, skilfully playing at the edges of jazz, classical, Latin, and world music with a tightly knit, synergistic band featuring Julien Labro on accordion, Edward Perez on double bass, and Mauricio Zottarelli on percussion. The multi-talented Pato can be heard in collaboration with musicians from around the world, including Yo-Yo Ma and the supergroup Silkroad Ensemble.

The American Pops Orchestra will kick off the New Year with another one-of-its-kind performance for kids and kids at heart. APO's 'Pied Piper' will add a musical element to the classic story by placing the Piper in a town where music and dancing aren't allowed. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the world-premiere musical American Prophet, directed and co-written by award-winning playwright Charles Randolph-Wright (Broadway's Motown The Musical) and featuring new music by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and co-script writer Marcus Hummon. The musical chronicles the life and legacy of one of the most notable human rights leaders of the 19th century, Frederick Douglass. Known as one of the greatest leaders of the abolitionist movement, Douglass was a prominent activist, author, orator and statesman. His own words power the soaring new melodies and original script. Directed by Randolph-Wright, American Prophet runs July 10 - August 16, 2020 in the Kreeger Theater.
