After a two-year delay due to COVID, this long-awaited So. Cal. production of NEWSIES---currently on stage at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts through May 29, 2022---marks the much-anticipated live and in-person return of 3-D Theatricals. The wait, as the saying goes, was worth it.

The award-winning Pittsburgh Playhouse at Point Park University, a multidisciplinary arts and entertainment center located in Downtown Pittsburgh, announced the lineup for their Inside/Outside Summer Series as well as over 30 performances across a multitude of arts disciplines for the 2022-2023 season.

Dawson. NEWSIES will preview on Friday, May 13, 2022 (with a press opening on Saturday, May 14 at 8pm) and runs through Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, 18000 Park Plaza Drive in Cerritos.

Written by Fraser Grace (Breakfast with Mugabe, RSC) and based on a short story by censored writer Andrey Platonov, Bliss tells the tragic yet heart-warming tale of a young couple trying to build a life against the odds in the aftermath of civil war.

Organizers of the GI Film Festival San Diego are thrilled to announce a diverse film lineup for its annual event happening May 17-21, 2022 at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in Balboa Park. CMS'sa??50th anniversarya??seasona??will welcome spring with programs that look back and look forward.  On April 3, Mozart's groundbreakinga??Piano Quartet in G minor, composed by the genius who invented the piano-violin-viola-cello quartet, shows how this new combination of instruments gave an opportunity for expressiveness that would become more pronounced in the Romantic age.  The piece is combined with a piano quartet and a quintet that follow in the next hundred years a?" one by Mendelssohn and one by Strauss. 

The last time I attended a production at Osceola Arts, the stage had been transformed into 1899 New York City for a production of Newsies. Last night, I returned to Osceola Arts, but now found myself transported thirty-two years later and over four thousand miles eastward to Germany, specifically the Kit Kat Klub of Berlin as immortalized in the 1966 musical CABARET. Although we're now ninety years removed from the Weimar Republic, CABARET still feels timely as ever. Given what regime succeeded the Weimar Republic, maybe that should not be good news. Yet that is why we need shows like CABARET: reminders that the apathy and distractions we think help us get by should actually not be our only outlet for life and livelihood. The Kit Kat Klub becomes less a physical place than it does a state of mind, one that comments upon the action of the musical, but does so without the repercussions and consequences of the narrative, at least until the bitter end.

It's Maine's Bicentennial, it's the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage, and it's an election year. When thinking of the great composers and playwrights whose works have graced Arena Stage, these are the names that come to mind. So when Disney's Newsies was announced for this season, it is understandable why some were shaking their head quizzically.
