Ann Hampton Callaway, one of the leading champions of the Great American Songbook, brings the Los Angeles debut of The Streisand Songbook to the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage, Sunday, February 10, at 7:30 pm. The special evening features Callaway singing timeless classics from five decades of Barbra Streisand's multi-faceted career, including "People," "Don't Rain on My Parade," "Evergreen," and "Cry Me a River." The lyrics of the acclaimed team of Alan and Marilyn Bergman will also be featured during the concert, and Alan Bergman will make a special cameo appearance to share stories about the years of collaboration he and his wife shared with Ms. Streisand, as well as to perform some cherished songs. Callaway is also joined by an all-star trio: Christian Jacob on piano, Trey Henry on bass, and MB Gordy on drums.

Both the Riedel Dance Theater and Ariel Rivka Dance companies today announced the upcoming world premieres of their new, narrative works - In Violent Circles (Rite of Spring) and Vashti, respectively. These two emerging contemporary ensembles will share the stage for three consecutive nights March 7 - 9, 2013, at the Ailey Citigroup Theatre (NYC). Both choreographers, Jonathan Riedel and Ariel Grossman, are true storytellers who draw upon the emotional power of drama, movement and music to bring stories to life through dance. Both pieces feature live, on-stage musical performances of original scores/arrangements by two of today's top contemporary composer/performers.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly leads vocalist Ashley Brown in a performance of beloved Broadway hits on Thursday, February 21 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore and Friday, February 22 at 8 p.m., Saturday, February 23 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, February 24 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Ms. Brown, known as Broadway's original Mary Poppins, will perform popular Broadway selections including "Make Someone Happy," "A Spoon Full of Sugar," "Le Jazz Hot," "Defying Gravity" from Wicked and more. The Broadhurst Theatre box office opens tomorrow, Friday, January 25 at 10:00 AM for LUCKY GUY, starring two-time Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks, in the final work by three-time Academy Award-nominee Nora Ephron and directed by two-time Tony Award-winner George C. My distant cousin Walter Elias 'Walt' Disney had a knack for turning everything into perfection, or at least practically perfect in every way. He took the mean, cranky nanny from P.L. Travers' book "Mary Poppins" and turned her into a saint. He excised two of the four Banks children, allowing the cutest ones to remain in the story. Travers' nanny couldn't dance on rooftops, didn't have adventures with Bert, didn't win at the horse races and couldn't sing. Travers was Australian; they take pride in being able to endure aggressive crocodiles, harsh deserts and appalling alloparenting. For those of us in the northern hemisphere who prefer our protagonists to be a bit on the spoonful of sugar side, Disney's Mary Poppins is just the ticket.
