By:

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that individual tickets for Flashdance–The Musical and Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins, both running in Minneapolis in April, will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. At that time, tickets will be sold online through HennepinTheatreTrust.org, in person at the State Theatre Box Office or by calling 1.800.982.2787 or visiting a Ticketmaster Ticket Center. Flashdance–The Musical, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will debut in Minnesota April 2-7, 2013. Mary Poppins, combining the original stories of P.L. Travers with beloved songs from the 1964 Walt Disney film, returns as a special addition to the season April 23-28, 2013. Both shows will play the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis and are presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust as part of their 2012/13 Broadway Across America-Minneapolis Season.

With electrifying dance at its core, Flashdance–The Musical tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the original Paramount Pictures film was a worldwide smash hit that became a pop culture phenomenon, grossing over $150 million and featuring a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack.

Flashdance–The Musical features a score including the hit songs from the movie, all of which became Top Ten hits on the radio around the world including the Academy Award-winning title song "Flashdance–What a Feeling," "Maniac," "Gloria," "Manhunt," "I Love Rock & Roll." In addition to these hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the stage. Directed and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, Memphis, The Addams Family), Flashdance features a book by Robert Cary and Tom Hedley (co-writer of the original screenplay with Joe Eszterhas) with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth.

Mary Poppins is the winner of 44 major theatre awards around the globe and has four productions currently running on three continents. The magical story of the world's most famous nanny includes the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and such classic tunes as "Chim Chim Cher-ee," "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." Olivier Award-winning director Richard Eyre leads the award-winning creative team with co-direction and choreography by Tony and Olivier Award winner Matthew Bourne.
