Following their one-off theatrical re-staging of Ken Loach's seminal work Cathy Come Home at the Barbican in July of this year, the award-winning theatre company Cardboard Citizens has announced a brand new touring production for October, Cathy, based around similar themes. Noche Flamenca Replaces Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba at Meany Center for the Performing Arts

Meany Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Washington announced today that Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba has cancelled its November 16-18, 2017 performances at Meany Hall. The company was unable to secure travel visas due to the recent suspension of visa processing at the U.S. Embassy in Havana. The company has been replaced by Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca, one of the world's top touring flamenco troupes. (more...)

Theater of Others Updates 400-Year-Old Comedy THE ROARING GIRL 6/16- 7/2

Theater of Others continues its fearless foray into the plays of Shakespeare and his contemporaries with Thomas Middleton and Thomas Dekker's 1611 comedy, The Roaring Girl, or Moll Cutpurse.  Moll is a dramatization of the life of Mary Frith, a carouser, cross-dresser, pickpocket, and street brawler in The Lower Depths of 17th century London.  Gaby Schneider directs a cast of fourteen at the Theater of Others' home, the Kelly Cullen Community Auditorium, 220 Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco. The Roaring Girl, or Moll Cutpurse runs Thursdays through Sundays, June 16-July 2.  As with all Theater of Others productions, admission is Pay-What-You-Will. (more...)

American Repertory Ballet Makes A Splash With Gerald Arpino's SEA SHADOW To Be Performed At McCarter Theatre

Since the earliest days of civilization, legends abound of mythical sea creatures who lure handsome young men to The Lower Depths of the sea. One such story is of Ondine, which tells of a young man on a beach enamored with a beautiful shadow from the sea. This story has sparked the imaginations of composers from Dvorak's operatic masterpiece "Rusalka" to compositions by Ravel and Debussy, and a critically acclaimed play by the French dramatist Jean Giraudoux. This legend was popularized in Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale, 'The Little Mermaid.' and in the popular Disney animated film by the same name. (more...)
