The American Slave Coast: Live, an electrifying live musical reading from Ned and Constance Sublette's powerful new book The American Slave Coast: A History of the Slave-Breeding Industry, takes place at Symphony Space on Friday, October 28 (8 pm). An exciting group of cutting-edge actors, vocalists, and musicians - including renowned film director Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, Rachel Getting Married), funk/R&B goddess Nona Hendryx of Labelle, acclaimed spoken word artist Carl Hancock Rux, Native American country singer Kandia Crazy Horse, and jazz/soul vocalist Lezlie Harrison - will bring the book's many voices to life. The cast will interact with a live musical ensemble directed by renowned New Orleans composer and bandleader Donald Harrison, along with projected imagery.

August in August' is a brand new annual live performance series teaming Joseph Grant Jr., ambassador of arts and culture for the councilman and theatrical producer Andrea J. Fulton of the Anderson & Bert Cade Fulton Foundation. Joint efforts result in the mounting of August Wilson's Tony nominated Two Trains Running directed by Sabura Rashid as its upcoming offering starting August 26th 2016. The production of 'Two Trains Running' will be featured at Fulton Park in Brooklyn on Aug. 26 from 6 to 9 p.m., and Aug. 27 at Herbert Von King Park from 4 to 7p.m. Both performances are FREE. August in August actually began Aug. 13 with the first installation of the series 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom performed at Fulton Park in Brooklyn, produced by the Bed-Stuy Theatre Group.

The Old Globe today shared its 2016 Summer Season, which will feature new and familiar works directed by four major American stalwarts. The season features the welcome return of Steve Martin (Bright Star) with the World Premiere of his new play Meteor Shower, an adult comedy, directed by Gordon Edelstein, in a co-production with Long Wharf Theatre, where he serves as Artistic Director. Paul Gordon's musical Sense and Sensibility will have its West Coast premiere, presented in association with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where it had its world premiere in February 2015, directed by CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines. The Summer Shakespeare Festival will include Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick, Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company, and Love's Labor's Lost, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall.

The producers for the new Broadway production of D.L. Coburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, The Gin Game, starring Tony Award winners James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson, have announced a change for first preview and opening night dates. The production, originally scheduled to start previews on September 18, will start previews on Wednesday, September 23.
