Karen Carpenter, a producer, director and teacher, a theater-maker for more than 30 years, has been appointed the interim Artistic Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts and the 34th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival. The Inge Festival is the Official Theater Festival of the State of Kansas, hosted on the campus of Independence Community College, which houses the William Inge archives.

The Pasadena Playhouse announces the cast of STOP KISS, the second production of its 2014-2015 Season. The production is performed November 4 - 30, 2014 with the official press night on Wednesday, November 9, 2014.

The 2014 Funk Festival scheduled at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, October 4 has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase starting Tuesday, September 9 at 10 a.m. Tickets purchased by phone or online will be automatically refunded.

Stage Left Theatre announces the upcoming Midwest premiere of The Coward written by Nick Jones and directed by Artistic Director Vance Smith. The Coward is the first production of Stage Left's 33rd season. Press opening is tonight, September 3 at 8:00 PM at Theater Wit, 1229 W Belmont. The show runs through October 5.

Little Shop of Horrors will open the new season at Theatre Lawrence, September 19-October 5! Winner of the best musical of 1983, this affectionate spoof of 1950's Sci-fi movies became one of Off Broadway's longest running shows. First seen as the 1960's black comedy by Roger Corman and screenplay by Charles Griffith, featuring Jack Nicholson, it then opened as the rock horror musical in 1982. The show combines the musical styles of 60's rock 'n' roll, do-wop and MoTown and includes several well known tunes such as Skid Row (Downtown), Somewhere That's Green, and Suddenly, Seymour.

In celebration of the life and times of funk master Rick James, the 2014 Funk Festival is taking over the Fox Theatre on Saturday, October 4 at 8 p.m. The lineup is loaded with funk stars including Cameo, the Mary Jane Girls featuring Val Young and The Family Stone, the Zapp band, Al Hudson and One Way and Jalil and Exstacy of Whodini. Funny-man Charlie Murphy of the Dave Chappelle Show will host the festival celebration.

A.R. Gurney's enduring romance about first loves and second chances, LOVE LETTERS, will have its first Broadway revival, beginning performances Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 8pm, at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41 Street).
