Performances have begun for the hit MCC Theater production of Jocelyn Bioh's "School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play" directed by Rebecca Taichman. Arcola Theatre and Forward Arena today announce the full cast for Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway, a new adaptation by Hal Coase. Thomas Bailey, co-Artistic Director of Forward Arena, directs Emma D'Arcy (Rezia), Sean Jackson (Peter), Clare Lawrence Moody (Sally), Clare Perkins (Clarissa) and Guy Rhys (Septimus). The production opens at Arcola Theatre on 1 October, with previews from 25 September and runs until 20 October.

Ted Austin, Chair of the Board of Directors at Portland Center Stage at The Armory in Portland, Oregon, announced today that Marissa Wolf has been selected as the next Artistic Director at Portland Center Stage at The Armory, after an eight-month, nationwide search. Wolf, who is currently the Associate Artistic Director/Director of New Works at Kansas City Repertory Theatre, previously served as the Artistic Director at San Francisco's innovative Crowded Fire Theater. Wolf will join Managing Director Cynthia Fuhrman as co-leader of Portland Center Stage and begins her role full-time on September 15, 2018.

Shakespeare's Globe is delighted to announce the programme for 'Shakespeare and Race', a new festival of events opening 11 August. This is the first time in the Globe's twenty-year history that the topic will be explored in depth over a week. Curated to draw attention to and provide a platform for scholars, practitioners and educators of colour in the teaching, study and performance of Shakespeare, this festival will highlight the importance of race to the consideration of Shakespeare not only in his time, but more urgently, in our own. The festival includes a play American Moor by Keith Hamilton Cobb, a workshop entitled Staging Race and Diversity in the Shakespearean Theatre, The Sam Wanamaker Fellowship Lecture is to be given by Professor Kim F. Hall, a pre-show talk for Emilia with Morgan-Lloyd Malcolm, a panel discussion of actors who have played Othello, and an international symposium featuring Kimberle Crenshaw, Professor of Law at Columbia Law School and UCLA, who coined the term 'intersectionality'. The festival starts and finishes with two theatre productions, Voices in the Dark and Hip-hop Shakespeare Unplugged.

PBS today unveiled a list of America's 100 best-loved novels, chosen in support of THE GREAT AMERICAN READ, a new PBS series and multi-platform initiative that celebrates the joy of reading and the books we love. THE GREAT AMERICAN READ, hosted by television personality and journalist Meredith Vieira, launches with a two-hour episode today, May 22, 2018, at 8 p.m. on PBS stations and will introduce viewers to the full list of America's 100 favorite novels selected through a demographically representative national survey conducted by YouGov. The series will also feature interviews with celebrities, authors, superfans and everyday Americans discussing the way particular books have influenced them and their significance in American popular culture. Then, after a multi-platform initiative throughout the summer, which will include live public events, social media components and national reading clubs, the series will resume in the fall with several themed episodes, including an exciting finale, culminating in the first-ever national vote to choose 'America's Best-Loved Novel.' It will be the most expansive national celebration of books and reading aimed at engaging multi-generational readers across multiple platforms ever created.
