The Old Globe's 2020 Summer Season brings to Balboa Park an extraordinarily talented group of artists who will delight audiences with their unique takes on four great works of theatre. Eugene Onegin airs on Great Performances at the Met Sunday, August 13 at 12 p.m. on PBS (check local listings). (In New York, THIRTEEN will air the opera at 12:30 p.m.)

Originally written by Sean O'Casey, the play, which presents an unflinching criticism of the 1916 Easter Rising, sparked riots when it was performed in Ireland in 1926. But in front of a crowd of mostly college students on Thursday evening, a reimagined version produced different sentiments -- mainly confusion, but ultimately, empathy.
