Critically-acclaimed arts innovators Upstart Theatre present the second annual DARE Festival at Shoreditch Town Hall, bringing together artists and audiences from across London and beyond in an explosion of new and in-development performance presented at the earliest possible stage.

In 1947, Harry Truman was president, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball, the first Polaroid camera was introduced and a UFO landed in Roswell, New Mexico. Oh yeah, and The Elmwood Playhouse, in Nyack, New York first opened its doors! Since then Elmwood has staged over 367 main stage productions, and had over 250,000 audience members have passed through their doors.

The first thing that drew me to SPARK was the theatre influence. What are some of your favorite stage plays and/or musicals? You don't have to live in the heart of New York City to love the theater, do you? I'm a lifelong resident of Springfield, Missouri, which has a fairly long history of producing actors—Brad Pitt, John Goodman, Kathleen Turner, Tess Harper have all lived here. There's definitely something in the air! Springfield's also home to several vintage theaters—I grew up going to productions inside them. I referenced a few in SPARK (The Fantasticks), as well as a few Shakespeare works (especially Romeo and Juliet). But I also wanted to show my readers what was in my mind's eye as I created the Avery theater. My local color video takes you on a tour:

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, June 26 at 10:00am ET for SpongeBob SquarePants on Broadway at The Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway - Broadway at 47th Street). Preview performances begin Monday, November 6th with an official opening on Monday, December 4th.
