The Joyce Theater (Linda Shelton, Executive Director), the nation's most prestigious theater devoted to modern dance, announced today the organization's programming for its 2015 Spring/Summer season, featuring a wide array of extraordinary companies, including return engagements of fan favorites and introductions to new companies making their Joyce debuts.

Part of its 'Season of Laughter and Love,' presented by the Cliffs Communities, the Playhouse is pleased to offer Broadway's greatest farce and one of the funniest musicals ever written, created by the legendary Stephen Sondheim and Larry Gelbart.

When Gaston Leroux published THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA back in 1911, little did he realize the numerous chandeliers that would come crashing down through the decades, and I've witnessed a good number of them. First, in 1925, there was 'the Man of a Thousand Faces,' Lon Chaney, Sr., who frightened poor Mary Philbin (a well-done version, even IF the film was silent); then, for Universal in 1941, Claude Rains (Bette Davis' favorite co-star) was a more subdued vocal coach for soprano Susanna Foster (a wooden Nelson Eddy, alas, is a greater impending horror as 'Raoul'). I could go on - even Herbert Lom, the actor who was the harried police superior to Peter Sellers' 'Inspector Clousseau,' took a swing on the old light fixture. (And let us not forget diminutive Paul Williams in the slightly askew PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE.) All of these pale, of course, in comparison to the legendary interpretation by Michael Crawford in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, which first brought the audience to its feet in 1986.

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.

In announcing the first season of concerts curated under her artistic directorship Lisa Bielawa has made public details of the 40-voice, Grammy Award-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus 2014-2015 season. The season of five programs will run October 4, 2014 through June 5, 2015 and be capped off by a tour to Nordic countries including Estonia, Finland and Sweden. The season concerts will be conducted by Music Director Valerie Sainte-Agathe and will highlight music by Amy Beach, Lili Boulanger, Carla Kihlstedt Schubert, Beethoven, Handel, Vaughan Williams, Ralf Yusuf Gawlick, Philip Glass, John Adams, John Cage, Lou Harrison, Meredith Monk and others and feature guest artists including pianistJon Nakamatsu and violinist/composer Carla Kihlstedt. Of particular note will be the West Coast premiere of Kinderkreuzzug (2010), an anti-war cantata by German-Turkish composer Ralf Yusuf Gawlick set on a 1941 poem by Bertoldt Brecht. Dallas Summer Musicals, Inc. (DSM) announced their 2014/2015 season of shows at Fair Park Thursday June 12. Heavy rain forecasts moved the 75-Year kickoff event from the Fair Park Band Shell where DSM first performed their shows to the nearby Centennial Building. In honor of the legendary actress, comedian, singer and writer Carol Burnett, Center Theatre Group is hosting a special tribute to the star's late daughter Carrie Hamilton with a one-night-only reading of Burnett and Hamilton's Broadway play "Hollywood Arms," at the Mark Taper Forum on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 7 p.m. Inspired by Burnett's early life in Hollywood, "Hollywood Arms" will be directed by Jason Alexander and will feature a star- studded cast (to be announced).

Now through June 1, 2014 Houston Ballet offers up a mixed repertory program showcasing works by three of the twentieth century's greatest choreographers entitled Modern Masters. The program features the company premiere of Jir?i? Kylia?n's comic and delightful Sechs Ta?nze (Six Dances), along with revivals of his playful and sexy work Petite Mort, William Forsythe's explosive In the middle, somewhat elevated and George Balanchine's complex and inventive The Four Temperaments. Houston Ballet will give six performances of the program in the Brown Theater at Wortham Theater Center.
