The University of Texas at Austin's award-winning dance company Dance Repertory Theatre returns to the stage in Momentum, February 15-26 at the B. Iden Payne Theatre. An exploration of the influence of African American culture upon contemporary dance in the twenty-first century, Momentum features works by nationally renowned artists, including Gesel Mason, Dr. Lorenzo 'Rennie' Harris, Abby Zbikowski, Adrienne Hurd, Netta Yerushalmy, Ananya Chatterjea and Dance Repertory Theatre Artistic Directors Charles O. The Chromolume Theatre at The Attic in Los Angeles has announced a season of musicals for 2017, kicking off on January 13 with the off-Broadway hit Zanna, Don't! by Tim Acito, followed in May by Michael John LaChiusa's Hello Again, and concluding with the rarely produced Stephen Sondheim & John Weidman classic Pacific Overtures, opening in September.

It didn't quite make Word of the Year, but the expression 'throwing shade' has found its way into the latest edition of the Collins Dictionary. The significance of this development is somewhat shaded (see what I did there?) by the general bemusement that it took Collins so long to 'discover' the phrase, and that anyone pays attention to dictionaries anymore, except in their online guises as useful tools for students and other plagiarists.

Commissioned and produced by DANCE NOW, National Intimacy Month is a collaboration between performance duo Chelsea and Magda, choreographer/dancers Bryan Strimpel and Shaina Branfman of B.S. Movement, and choreographer Raja Feather Kelly and his troupe, the feath3r theory. Combining choreography, improvisation, text, live podcasting, and sketch comedy, the work explores the role of intimacy in the creative process and in performance. The cute and the aggressive, the familiar and unknown, the popular and the underrated-all come into play in dynamic, surprising, and humorous ways, complete with commercial breaks and apple pie.
