The Chromolume Theatre at The Attic in Los Angeles has announced a season of musicals for 2017, kicking off on January 13 with the off-Broadway hit Zanna, Don't! by Tim Acito, followed in May by Michael John LaChiusa's Hello Again, and concluding with the rarely produced Stephen Sondheim & John Weidman classic Pacific Overtures, opening in September.

Zanna, Don't! is set in mid-west America and tells the tale of a parallel universe where homosexuality is the norm and heterosexuality is taboo. The show takes place at heterophobic Heartsville High. 'Magical Matchmaker' Zanna brings together happy couples until the football team's star quarterback and the captain of the Girls' Intramural Mechanical Bull-Riding Team begin to discover their feelings for each other. Originally produced off-Broadway in 2003 with a revival (again off-Broadway) in 2011, Zanna, Don't! has been presented across the United States and in London and New Zealand. Book, music and lyrics are by Tim Acito with additional lyrics by Alexander Dinelaris. Directed by Lauren J. Peters, Zanna Don't! will open January 13 and run through February 5.

Michael John LaChiusa's Hello Again is based on the 1897 play La Ronde by Arthur Schnitzler. It focuses on a series of love affairs among 10 characters during the 10 different decades of the 20th century. LaChuisa's musical adaptation follows the structure of Schnitzler's original material closely, often replicating fragments of his dialogue, detailing a daisy chain of sexual encounters and love affairs. Unlike the book, each scene is set in a different decade of the 20th century and in non-chronological order, allowing for a large and varied pastiche of musical styles ranging from opera to 1970s disco. Hello Again was originally produced off-Broadway (at Lincoln Center) in 1993. Directed by Richard Van Slyke, Hello Again will run from May 5-28.

The Chromolume production of Pacific Overtures will be the first one in Los Angeles in 18 years. The show had its Broadway premiere in 1976 and was nominated for 10 Tony Awards. It was presented in Kabuki style, with men playing women's parts and set changes made in full view of the audience by people dressed in black. The story is set in 1853 and follows the difficult Westernization of Japan, told from the point of view of the Japanese. In particular, the story focuses on the lives of two friends caught in the change. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman (with additional material by Hugh Wheeler), the score is generally considered to be one of Sondheim's most ambitious and sophisticated efforts. Pacific Overtures is set to run September 16 through October 8.

Season tickets are $60 (three shows for the price of two), and single tickets are $30 each. They are on sale now and may be purchased online at www.crtheatre.com or by calling (323) 205-1617. The Chromolume Theatre at The Attic is located at 5429 W. Washington Boulevard (between the 10 freeway and Hauser Boulevard) in Los Angeles, 90016.
