This sweeping and stirring musical masterpiece paints a portrait of America at the dawn of the twentieth century, interweaving the lives of three families—an African American family, a Jewish Immigrant family, and a wealthy white family—finding their places and pursuing the American Dream in a rapidly changing world. Featuring a Tony Award-winning book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Terrence McNally (Master Class, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink) and a Tony Award-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Once on This Island, Anastasia, Seussical The Musical), this musical is based on E. San Francisco Playhouse announced casting for Follies by James Goldman and Stephen Sondheim. The musical will run on the San Francisco Playhouse Mainstage from June 30 through September 10, 2022. Bill English will direct, with music direction by Dave Dobrusky and choreography by Nicole Helfer. This marks the first fully staged professional production of Follies in San Francisco.

Sondheim's macabre musical Sweeney Todd, arrives in Brazil. The show opened on March in Sao Paulo for a short season and takes place on the 033 Rooftop of Teatro Santander. With direction by Ze Henrique de Paula, the Brazilian production stars Rodrigo Lombardi (Sweeney), Andrezza Massei (Mrs. Lovett), and Mateus Ribeiro (Tobias Ragg).

According to The Guardian, the late actor Alan Rickman's twenty seven diaries are set to be published in one book. Canongate publishing now has the rights, and the work is set to be published in the fall of this year. The book, now titled 'The Diaries of Alan Rickman' encompasses over twenty five years of the actor's personal writings, including discussions about his career and personal life. The entries began in the first half of the 1990s and continued until his death in 2016. Rickman began the diaries with the intention that they would be published one day.

Porchlight Music Theatre has announced the current roster of music theatre and cabaret talent performing in this year’s annual Chicago Sings fundraising concert, Chicago Sings Stephen Sondheim, Monday, May 23, at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
