The Drama League Announces Its 2018 Resident Artists

The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) has announced the theater directors and ensembles chosen to develop new plays and musicals as part of the 2018 Drama League Artist Residency Program. Public work-in-progress presentations will be held periodically throughout the year at The Drama League Theater Center, 32 Avenue of the Americas, in Tribeca. Australian comedian, Hannah Gadsby, will make her New York City debut with her multi-award winning and critically acclaimed show, Nanette,opening Friday, March 9 at SoHo Playhouse and running for five weeks only. Presented by WestBeth Entertainment, SoHo Playhouse, Barrow Street Productions and Token Events, tickets go on sale on Thursday, January 25 at 10:00 AM.

Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA; Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director) announces a free post-performance discussion moderated by Pulitzer Prize-winning theatre critic and Negroland: A Memoir author Margo Jefferson in connection with TFANA's world premiere production of Adrienne Kennedy's He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box. The talk, which begins at 8.30 PM is open to all and features director Charlotte Braithwaite and playwrights Lydia Diamond and Jackie Sibblies Drury, follows the January 20 performance of Kennedy's first new play in a decade, which begins at 7:30 that evening, at Polonsky Shakespeare Center (262 Ashland Place, Brooklyn, NY 11217). The discussion will also be streamed live on Theatre for a New Audience's Facebook page. He Brought Her Heart Back in a Box runs January 18-February 11. Riverside Symphony to Hold Concert Featuring Puppetry

Led by conductor George Rothman, Riverside Symphony principal players will join Robert Rogers Puppets and actress Eleanor Ruth at Merkin Concert Hall on Sunday afternoon, February 25 at 3:00PM. In a program sure to engage children (ages nine and up) and adults, Camille Saint-Sa ns's disarming Carnival of the Animals and Igor Stravinsky's urbane chamber masterpiece, l'Histoire du soldat, will both be transformed through the magical melding of virtuoso musicianship and exquisite puppetry. Since 1980, Rogers' internationally acclaimed troupe has delighted audiences of all ages.

AMERICAN HWANGAP Premieres 2/1 at West Of Lenin

Steeped in the difficulty of reunification and reconciliation, American Hwangap tells the story of Min Suk Chun, who some 15 years earlier left his family in a West Texas suburb to return to his native Korea. On the occasion of his 60th birthday (hwangap), a milestone signifying the completion of the Eastern Zodiac and a type of rebirth, he returns to his ex-wife and now adult children as they struggle to reconcile their broken past with the mercurial, verbose and often exasperating patriarch now back at the head of the table. Through a tense birthday weekend filled with humor, heartbreak and half-filled expectations, this American hwangap and its aftermath bears a family not quite whole but still somehow transformed, and not quite happy but still somehow beautiful.

Musician Oran Etkin Launches Timbalooloo Soho Family Music Class Space

This January, Oran Etkin's Timbalooloo is celebrating the opening of its first flagship class location designed especially for young children and their families: Timbalooloo SoHo. To celebrate the launch, internationally acclaimed clarinetist, composer and educator Etkin will host a grand opening concert for Timbalooloo SoHo at City Winery today, January 13 followed by a parade from the venue to Timbalooloo's new Soho space for a special ribbon cutting ceremony. The concert features Etkin's award winning jazz quintet and his instrument friends Clara Net (his clarinet) and her mother Big Mama Tuba and offers a fun interactive introduction to the Timbalooloo Method, in which all the instruments come to life and talk through their music.

The UK Premiere of There or Here, from the producers of the 2013 hit Yellow Face (Park Theatre/National Theatre transfer), will open the PARK90 2018 season. With a cast that includes Rakhee Thakrar (EastEnders), Jennifer Maisel's dramatic comedy follows the journey of an inter-racial American couple who return to the country of his roots to outsource their pregnancy.
