The full season will feature B.R.O.K.E.N code B.I.R.D switching, a world premiere play and an award recipient of the GRANTS FOR ARTS PROJECTS from the National Endowment for the Arts; Once, a Tony Award-winning musical; Songs For a New World, the first musical by a Tony Award winner; Dracula, a classic gothic tale of horrors; and Edward Albee's Seascape, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play. 

With a lineup featuring world-class dance, world music, holiday special events, and family-friendly shows, the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (SMDCAC) has announced its 2022 Summer and Fall season.

Brooklyn-based indie-pop songstress Elizabeth Wyld has shared her newest single “How Am I Still Holding On”, out now. The track, produced by Zach Jones and Oscar Albis Rodriguez, was the first track ever written by Wyld on a piano and marks a shift in the many sounds she has been exploring. Vocals, piano, and drums on “How Am I Still Holding On” were all recorded live in one take. 

The Pulitzer Prize Board has just announced that Fat Ham has won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Other finalists included: Selling Kabul, and Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord.

Opening Thursday night, November 11 and continuing for five performances through Sunday, November 14, Ragtime – the musical by Stephen Flaherty (music), Lynn Ahrens (lyrics) and Terrance McNally (book) which, in turn, is based upon E.L. Moonbox Productions has announce that it has selected eleven original plays by local playwrights for its 1st Annual Boston New Works Festival.  Moonbox will host the New Works Festival June 24-26, 2022 at the Boston Center for the Arts.

All three virtuosic works were written for and premiered by The Crossing, which has commissioned over 110 works since its inception. The Crossing’s latest release on Navona, CARTHAGE, is nominated for a 2021 GRAMMY Award for Best Choral Performance.

There is a particular snobbery surrounding musical theatre: critics say that in a moment of high drama, crisis or emotion, the most unrealistic thing to do would be to break into song. Musicals are too camp, annoying and definitely not cool. They appeal to the coach parties of tourists rocking up in Leicester Square every weekend (those were the days!). However, musicals are not representations of real life, nor do they pretend to be. A successful musical has a magical combination of highly memorable music, an engaging storyline, incredible choreography and visually impressive set and costume design. It’s not a coincidence that the best musical theatre performers are called a triple threat, as they act, sing and dance, often without any perceivable effort.
