Thanks to the efforts of philanthropist and veterans activist, Patricia Kennedy, founder of Step Up 4 Vets, a not for profit organization whose mission is to partner in the transition of our returning veterans as they readjust, redirect and rebuild their civilian lives, 55 veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan made up for many missed holidays with an all day family celebration centered around the acclaimed Joffrey Ballet's renowned Nutcracker. 26 years ago, longtime Joffrey Board member & close friend of Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino raised the funds to create the Joffrey's now internationally acclaimed Nutcracker. The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC), recipient of the 2012 Caffe Cino Fellowship Award from the Innovative Theatre Foundation, has announced their additional IT Award Nominations and their 12th Season featuring the New York Premiere of Gregory S. Moss's (punkplay, House of Gold) Billy Witch and Willy Russell's (Educating Rita, Shirley Valentine) Blood Brothers. APAC is also fortunate to be working on a developmental piece with Grammy and Tony-award winning composer Galt MacDermot (Hair), Gone Tomoro. APAC's performance venue is located at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 30-44 Crescent St (@30th Rd) in Astoria, Queens.

Two of the Upper West Side of Manhattan's most renowned Cantors - Rebecca Garfein, Senior Cantor of Congregation Rodeph Sholom, and Dan Singer, Cantor at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue - will perform at the Enrico Caruso Room at Grotta Azzurra Ristorante in Little Italy tonight, August 28, at 8 PM. Both singers are opera-trained and have performed on operatic and concert stages all over the world and will offer an exciting program of memorable arias and American Songbook favorites.

An all new SPIDER-MAN spoof will debut at the Blank Theatre Company's 19th Annual Young Playwrights Festival, titled SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE LIGHTS. The show, which is one of twelve productions that will be featured at the four week event, is the brainchild of 17-year old Adam Brodheim from New York City.
