The Public Theater has announced the exciting international line-up for the 13th annual UNDER THE RADAR FESTIVAL, running January 4-15, 2017.

Now celebrating its 90th anniversary, The Plough and the Stars has been given a reimagined revival by The Abbey Theatre, Ireland's National Theatre and is on tour at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA until October 9th. This Brechtian inspired production is as alien as it is fresh and reminds us of a plightful world outside of our current political climate. Parallels could easily be drawn from turn of the century Ireland to 2016 America, but that's not the story The Abbey Theatre or director Sean Holmes are interested in telling. Not everything on the American Stage needs a path back to us. The Abbey's approach is more vast and profound as evidenced in an early line 'There's no such thing as an Irishman, or an Englishman, or a German or a Turk; we're all only human bein's.'

The Vagabond Players is happy to announce its historic 101st consecutive season for 2016-17. 

Fulfilling its Music Director/Founder's dream of uniting the Yosemite National Park Gateway communities and also celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service in a truly special way, the Mariposa Symphony Orchestra (MSO) embarked on an historic five-county tour of those gateway communities in 2016. Les Marsden's evening-length four-movement symphonic cycle titled “Our Nation's Nature” was performed by the MSO under that work's composer in seven concerts in Mariposa County, Madera County, Merced County, Tuolumne County, Mono County and two unprecedented concerts in Yosemite National Park itself. While dedicated overall to the NPS Centennial, 'Our Nation's Nature' consists of four movements, each of which commemorates an important anniversary significant to Yosemite, America's great outdoors and the National Park Service: 

The Vagabond Players has announced its historic 101st  consecutive season for 2016-17.  The Vagabonds first opened in 1916 as a  part of the Little Theatre Movement that was sweeping the country at the  time. Whereas most of those theatres eventually closed or went dark for  several seasons, The Vagabonds has produced a season for 101 consecutive  years earning it the title:

Producer Corky Hale's I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU - The Life and Lyrics of Al Dubin, features lyrics by Al Dubin, most music by Harry Warren, a book by Jerry Leichtling and Arlene Sarner, and musical direction by Gerald Sternbach.  The production is directed and choreographed by  Kay Cole.  BroadwayWorld TV's own LA on-air Host Michael Sterling was invited to take a sneak peek at rehearsals last week and interview some of the show's stars and creative team.  

This summer marks another historic milestone for the annual Bard SummerScape festival. For the first time since its founding, this season's focus is on the music and culture of Italy, with seven weeks of music, opera,theater, dance, film, and cabaret keyed to the theme of the 27th Bard Music Festival, "Puccini and His World." This intensive examination of the life and times of Giacomo Puccini opens a window onto Italy's rich musical heritage from Palestrina to Menotti, by way of the most popular and successful - yet, paradoxically, frequently critically underrated - opera composer of all time. Complementing the music festival, some of the Tuscan master's most compelling compatriots provide other key SummerScape highlights. These include a rare, fully staged production of Iris, a forerunner of Madama Butterfly by Puccini's close contemporary Pietro Mascagni; the world premiere of Demolishing Everything with Amazing Speed, four newly unearthed puppet plays from leading Italian Futurist Fortunato Depero, as reimagined by Dan Hurlin;the world premiere of Fantasque, a new ballet set to the music of Respighi and Rossini by John Heginbotham and Amy Trompetter; a film series on "Puccini and the Operatic Impulse in Cinema"; and the return of Bard's authentic and sensationally popularSpiegeltent,hosted by the inimitable Mx. Justin Vivian Bond. Taking place between July 1 and August 14 in the Frank Gehry-designed Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and other venues on Bard College's stunning Hudson River campus, SummerScape's 2016 offerings provide new opportunities to discover that, as Time Out New York puts it, "the experience of entering the Fisher Center and encountering something totally new is unforgettable and enriching." The internationally-acclaimed Pacific Chorale in Orange County, CA will be presenting a new work created by American opera composer Jake Heggie, and the versatile librettist Gene Scheer entitled 'THE RADIO HOUR'. The choral opera will be conducted by Pacific Chorale's Artistic Director, John Alexander, and stage-directed by James R. Taulli. The premiere work will be performed by the organization's chamber choir, The John Alexander Singers, accompanied by an 8-member ensemble of musicians who are members of Pacific Symphony. The performance is on Sunday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, CA.
