We have a feeling Broadway fans are going to love the 2016 Boston Pops season, running May 6-June 18, under the direction of conductor Keith Lockhart. Featuring classic Boston Pops programming, including film scores of the silver screen, ballads from Broadway and the great American Songbook, classic rock anthems, and a Gospel Night spectacular, along with an impressive lineup of Boston Pops debuts, new programs that spotlight the best of the worlds of dance and puppetry, and the return of last year's audience favorite -- Pops On Demand: You Choose the Tunes -- the lineup features a slew of Broadway talent, including Sutton Foster, Mandy Patinkin, and Marin Mazzie & Jason Danieley.

The Metropolitan Opera's 2016-17 season, the 50th anniversary of its home at Lincoln Center, will feature 225 opera performances of 26 operas in a varied repertory that ranges from 18th century masterpieces to one of the most acclaimed operas in recent years. Repertoire for the company's 132nd season will include the Met premiere of Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho's 2000 opera L'Amour de Loin, as well as new stagings of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, Rossini's Guillaume Tell, Gounod's Romeo et Juliette, Dvo?ak's Rusalka, and Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier. A gala concert on May 7, 2017 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company's Lincoln Center location with performances by opera's leading stars honoring the Met's past and future. Ticket prices will not increase, remaining the same as in the current season, and audience development programs instituted by the company in recent years will continue.  

Palo Alto Players, the Peninsula's first theatre company, announces its 86th season - 'From Stage to Screen and Back Again' - featuring a collection of plays and musicals whose time-honored stories have been theatrical hits both on stage and in film. The 2016-17 line-up, beginning September 2016, was unveiled Saturday, January 30 by Artistic Director Patrick Klein and Managing Director Diana Lynn Berenstein at the company's annual Season Announcement Party and includes Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID; THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK; A DAY IN HOLLYWOOD, A NIGHT IN THE UKRAINE; Monty Python's SPAMALOT and THE GRADUATE. Appropriately enough, the supposedly haunted Plummer Auditorium in Fullerton is currently playing host to the happy spooks of 3-D Theatricals' regional production of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, which continues performances at this historic theater through October 25 before migrating south to the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center for shows October 31 - November 8. Filled with gleeful, cheese-tastic one-liners and catchy, cleverly written tunes from Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party, Big Fish), this seemingly underrated stage musical gem is a lively, highly-amusing little comedy that celebrates individual uniqueness while poking lots of giddy fun at fragile family dynamics, pointing out that even the most creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky beings among us face the same kinds of OMG-drama that so-called 'normals' do. As an added bonus, 3DT's production features a stellar cast led by TV's Bronson Pinchot as Gomez and Broadway vet Rachel York as Morticia.

Helen Dallimore has drawn together a stellar group of actors and creatives to bring Cole Porter's HIGH SOCIETY to life with lots of laughs and beautiful music.

Molly Smith directs her 30th production as Artistic Director of Arena Stage with a gritty and relevant take on the Tony Award-winning musical Oliver!, blending the chaotic worlds of 19th-century Victorian London with 2015 London. Smith's new in-the-round staging infuses a modern edge to the classic musical about an innocent orphan thrown into the dark world of double-dealing thieves and conmen, highlighting the disparity between classes and dangerous life on London's streets today. Featuring a remarkable score including 'You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two,' 'Consider Yourself,' 'Where is Love?' and 'Food, Glorious Food,' Oliver! runs October 30, 2015-January 3, 2016 in the Fichandler Stage at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater.

Next spring, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, Brandon Victor Dixon, and Joshua Henry will star in SHUFFLE ALONG Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a striking new production that presents both the 1921 musical itself, and additionally details the events that catalyzed the songwriting team of Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake, and librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles to create this ground-breaking work.

This weekend we have the rare treat of seeing a brand new play presented in our area that not only teaches us a lot about our history, but also thoroughly entertains. MR. WILL AND DUTCH: ALABAMA'S LEGENDARY BANKHEADS tell the story of Tallulah Bankhead (Dutch, a nickname given to her by her father, Mr. Will) and her family through the memories of her sister Eugenia. It is a delightful walk through time and reminds us of some of the best and worst of our state's past.

Physical Festival Chicago announced today the full program for its second annual celebration of this energetic, imaginative and boundary-breaking form of theater. The following companies and artists will participate in this week-long event to be held July 7-12: Single Shoe Productions (UK, Portugal & USA), Walkabout Theater Company (Chicago), DeCollage (Spain) and David Gaines (Washington DC). For the last time this season, art influences life with Utah Opera's “Libretti & Libations,” a partnership with Salt Lake City's top mixologists to create craft cocktails inspired by the current opera production. During May, six social sippers -- Bambara, BTG Wine Bar, Caffe Molise, Finca, Takashi and Pallet -- offer the second installment of opera-based libations with “The Pearl Fishers”-inspired craft cocktails as a way of creating an intersection between food and drink, and opera.
