Poway OnStage to Encore O' BERKLEY, WHERE HART THOU? This April

By unprecedented audience demand, Poway OnStage presents the encore performance of 2012's runaway hit O' BERKLEY, WHERE HART THOU? led by local bluegrass duo Berkley Hart.
The evening will feature an all-star line-up of San Diego country, folk, rock and bluegrass musicians who have gathered to recreate the Grammy Award winning O' Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Legendary songs "Man of Constant Sorrow," "In the Jailhouse Now," "Oh Death," "I'll Fly Away" and more will receive a modern update from the likes of Gregory Page, Joey Harris, Robin Henkel, Eve Selis & Marc Twang, Robin Adler and many more.
Performed "Grand Ol' Opry style" - with vocalists and acoustic instruments circled around a shared microphone - O Berkley captures the pure, organic beauty of these timeless classics with minimal embellishments.The concert will include performances by:

Berkley Hart have found something that works. The combination of Kerrville New Folk Songwriter Award winner, Jeff Berkley, and stand-out wordsmith, Calman Hart, creates a pairing that has become one of the premier acoustic duos touring the country. Every Berkley Hart show is packed with entertainment as the duo combines their natural down-home humor with poignant, delicate, masterfully crafted lyrics delivered with stunning harmony and musicianship. Between songs, the obvious camaraderie between these two top songwriters shines as they effortlessly play off each other in what can only be called genuine comedy. Add in virtuoso playing from both Jeff Berkley (guitar) and Calman Hart (guitar, harmonica) and it's easy to see why the two have become live favorites.
Both Berkley and Hart emerged from the Southern California coffeehouse circuit, each building sizeable followings of their own before joining forces. As a duo for more than ten years now, they have become fixtures on the folk circuit, making appearances at the Kerrville Folk Festival, as well as playing some of folk's most prestigious venues including The Birchmere and The Bluebird Café. In 2005, they staged the first presentation of O Berkley, Where Hart Thou? the multi-artist extravaganza that features music from the film "O Brother Where Art Thou?" presented at Poway OnStage.

Dennis Caplinger is a multi-talented musician who has toured and recorded with many different artists including Bluegrass Etc., Eric Clapton, Vince Gill, Nickel Creek, Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen, Byron Berline, Dan Crary, Richard Greene, Chris Thile, Sean Watkins, John Reischmann, Ray Park, Jann Browne, Kevin Welch, Kelly Willis, Ray Price, Rita Coolidge, Buck Howdy, Tim Flannery, Eve Selis and The Academy of Country Music Awards Show Band. His busy touring schedule as Banjoist/Fiddler with Bluegrass Etc. has taken him all over the world and yielded three critically acclaimed albums to date; their latest, "Home Is Where The Heart Is" was voted one of the top ten bluegrass recordings of the year for 1999 by the Chicago Tribune.
A highly sought-after player/producer in the West-coast studio scene, he has worked on countless jingles, commercials, cartoons and movies and has his own production company based in Vista, Ca. Dennis is actively producing and playing on projects for CMH records popular "Pickin' On" series - featured records he has been a part of include tributes to Eric Clapton, Santana, Creed, Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Bonnie Raitt, Jim Morrison, Queen, Neil Diamond, Dave Matthews Band, R.E.M., Z.Z. Top, Lynrd Skynrd, Black Crowes, Phish, Dolly Parton, Brooks and Dunn, Lonestar, Lee Ann Womack, Jo Dee Messina, Tim McGraw, Montgomery Gentry, Keith Urban, Tracy Byrd, Leann Rimes, Indigo Girls, Rod Stewart, Nancy Sinatra and Van Halen.
His movie soundtrack credits include "Back to the Future III", "El Diablo", "Rio Diablo", Steven King's "Apt Pupil" and the current HBO series "Deadwood" among others. Dennis' playing is featured on the soundtrack of "The Simpsons" and Warner Bros. cartoons "Pinky and the Brain" and "Histeria", as well as on numerous programs on PBS, A&E, TNN and The History Channel. Recent commercials include "New York Life", "Supercuts", "Subway Sandwiches", "Home Depot", "St. Joseph's Aspirin", "Applebee's", "Discover Card" featuring John Lithgow, and "Cingular Wireless", which Dennis appeared in along with Bluegrass Etc. Dennis has contributed to Banjo Newsletter and can be seen in the October 1999 issue of Bluegrass Now magazine, which contains a feature article on him.
Lisa Sanders: Born in Phildelphia Pennsylvania raised in Poway California. The Electrifying Lisa Sanders is currently on tour in support of Lisa's CD "Shiver", which was nominated for The San Diego Music Awards Best Pop Album. Lisa has eight CD releases to her credits. She is a Two Time San Diego Best Acoustic Artist, a Reader Poll Best Acoustic Artist, Third Place Telluride Bluegrass Festival New Folk Winner, The National Women's Association Living Legacy Recipient, and National Association of Professional Women Legacy Award Recipient. The Country/Bluesy/Americana of Lisa Sanders is genuine, heart-felt and well-crafted. Each song is sung with true conviction and meaning. Her sheer talent has garnered tremendous accolades earning opening spots with artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, BB King, and many more. Robin Henkel: Three time winner of "Best Blues" at the San Diego Music Awards Robin Henkel performs country blues with an intensity rarely seen in Southern California. Grounded in the blues of Mississippi 1930s-50s, Robin has built his own personal style drawing from the influences of Robert Johnson, Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, Skip James and others. Robin has opened shows for Dizzy Gillespie, Bonnie Raitt, BB King, David Lindley, John Mayall, Dr John, Jr Wells, Warren Zevon, Arlo Guthrie, Charles Brown, Steve Stills and has performed with Johnny Almond, Big J McNealy, Jimmy Witherspoon, Sha Na Na, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Lowell Fulson and the San Diego Symphony.
Robin Adler's smooth and heartfelt voice has been a favorite of her fans around the globe for two decades. Her career has included working with top jazz artists and for over ten years she has led Mutts of the Planet, a band which performs the intricate and demanding catalog of composer Joni Mitchell. Their shows have been consistently ranked among the top San Diego jazz concerts of the year by music writer Robert Bush.
Joey Harris: Born of music business royalty, (uncle Nick Reynolds was in the Kingston Trio) Joey's career spans four decades, and every genre of music. Folk-rock with singer-songwriter John Stewart. So-Cal punk with the Fingers. Eighties pop-rock, and MCA recording artist, with his band Joey Harris & The Speedsters. Country-punk with Country Dick & the Snuggle Bunnies, and Las Vegas style lounge-rock with Country Dick, Mojo Nixon, and Dave Alvin as The Pleasure Barons. Joey survived a ten year stint with international bar-band heroes the Beat Farmers, and now heads Joey Harris & The Mentals, as well as working as lead guitarist for San Diego Rock & Soul band the Tighten Ups, Shawn Rohlf & the Buskers, and The Rock Trio with songwriter Paul Kamanski and his wife Caren.
Joe Rathburn has been earnin' a living knockin' around stages since 1972. He packed his kit and left Michigan in 1979 and wound up in San Diego where he put down his second set of roots. He's been makin' music and fans here ever since, occasionally venturing elsewhere on short junkets, but mostly stickin' to SoCal. His style was built from the ground up from listening to the great singer-songwriters and guitarists from the sixties and seventies, but he has an approach all his own. He has four full length studio CDs (two of which were produced by Jeff Berkley), one live double CD, and a few singles and a couple awards to his name, and plans to continue on this path indefinitely. He created The Folkey Monkey Songwriter Showcase in 2005 and continues to produce and host it twice a month, drawing guests from his local music friends and from touring artists from across the country and Canada. It has garnered quite a reputation, both locally and nationally, as a fine place to hear and play acoustic music. He's been married to his wife, Mair, since 1986, and they have their own home in which they live with 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 2 fish.
Eve Selis: As winner of 7 San Diego Music Awards in Americana and Adult Alternative, Eve Selis is no stranger to Roots music. Her newest CD Family Tree features 14 sturdy tracks drawn from the dark, rich soil of American music. From the swamp-rock of "Rubber and Glue" to the plaintive country heartbreaker "Don't You Feel Lonesome" to Leonard Cohen's majestic masterpiece "Hallelujah," Selis and her band dug deep to create a towering opus of interconnected musical branches, all dripping with Selis's indelible "honey chipotle" voice. "This CD sums it all up for me," Selis explains. "I got to explore all the different styles of music I love; I got to co-write with all my favorite songwriters (Marc Intravaia, Kim McLean, Calman Hart, Rich Wiley, Doug Crider); I got to sing wonderful songs about the things that mean the most to me - loss and love, sadness and joy, hardship and triumph, faith and family; I got to record with the best band in San Diego, with the best studio team I've ever worked with...I couldn't be happier about this CD."
Marc Twang: Marc has been playing guitar and writing songs with Eve Selis since 1991 and has performed with Kenny Loggins, Kim Carnes, America, Suzy Bogguss, BJ. Thomas, and many others. Marc attributes his love of medieval tuba music to his lovely wife Paula and his children Sam, Shayla, Sierra and Trevor.
Michael McNevin: A San Francisco Bay Area native, Michael McNevin started his career with a six-month stint in New York City, cutting his troubadour teeth in the subways and streets of Greenwich Village. Now a veteran of the folk scene, Michael has logged close to 20 years worth of concerts across the U.S., and he's been a main stager at some of the bigger music festivals around, including the Strawberry, Kerrville, High Sierra, and Philadelphia music festivals. He's been billed in clubs and halls with the likes of Johnny Cash, Shawn Colvin, Donovan, Richie Havens, Christine Lavin, Utah Phillips, and 100s of others on the songwriter circuit. He has a seasoned voice, accomplished steel string guitar work, and a vivid brand of storytelling. He is a past winner of the Kerrville New-folk award in Texas, a 6-time winner of the West Coast Songwriters Association "Song Of The Year" ('91, '92, '97, '98, '05, '09), and was chosen by Performing Songwriter Magazine as a Top 12 "DIY Artist Of The Year". With 5 releases under his belt, and a few hard to find cassettes, his next CD is tentatively titled "Kickin' Tires". Tracks include 'Broom' & 'Scarecrow' (both winners of the WCS 'Song Of The Year' award), 'Phoenixville', 'Pioneer Shindig, & '60 Years Of Sand'. Two of the tracks - 'This Town Is Gonna Change' & 'I Shot Broncho Billy' - are also heard in the indie film "Weekend King", an indie film that features five of his songs in the soundtrack, and casts him in a cameo role as a broke and lovesick bartender. In addition, Michael is an Etch A Sketch artist of some renown, delighting and dumbfounding audiences with his song illustrations on the little red toy. Michael has been a guest on CBS "Evening Magazine", numerous news and entertainment segments on NBC, ABC, and dozens of cable music shows. He also owns and operates the Mudpuddle Shop, in downtown Niles, CA. He's hosted 70+ concerts there, and well over 200 jams in the 6 years he's operated it. It also serves as the Golden Spike Headquarters - a volunteer crew that Michael facilitates for the town, to help the local steam trains gather passengers for rides through the Niles Canyon. His original Etch A Sketch art creations are also a shop attraction -- 20 of them hang on the wall, waiting for an earthquake.
Gregory Page is a product of his own imagination. To describe him in one word would be indescribable. He looks like your kind uncle from a bygone era, neat in a suit with an old fedora in one hand and a vintage guitar in the other. His concerts resemble a vaudeville cabaret act that meets an old time folk revival show, have been met with great popularity in the Netherlands & in Australia. A Gregory Page concert, complete with song, storytelling and humorous poetry is the perfect antidote to the hectic pace of everyday life. Page's musical advisor is Mr. Lou Curtiss, a proprietor of a half century old record shop in San Diego. Like Tom Waits and Robert Crumb, Gregory has spent years inside that shop with Lou, listening to all sorts of musical styles. As a result of being exposed to hundreds of musicians and their different, unique styles, Page could not decide on one single genre to follow, so he chose practically every style that he heard in Lou's shop. It made sense to Page, as it made sense to Lou Curitss, that there are so many wonderful different styles of music, to pick only one to listen to or to be inspired by would be darn right silly. So the fact is within the original compositions of Gregory Page you will indeed hear echoes of the past such as the British crooner from the 1930's Al Bowlly, the voice of Woody Guthrie, Sophie Tucker and countless other performing musicians that have long left the world's music scene. Gregory is a living breathing vintage tube radio console, zig-zagging around the channels, tuning in and singing out with the greatest of ease. His antena sits on top of Lou's record shop, where inside all the secrets of the universe seem to exist for him. Page's natural ability to genre bend has given him unique opportunities to perform at a wide range of festivals and venues across the world. His countless solo tours in Australia have resulted in him headlining the Manley Jazz Festival and practically every folk festival in that country, including the legendary Woodford Folk Festival.
Nathan Rivera and Jessie Andra Smith have traveled all over the world on the streets and stages sharing their unique sound. They frequent Mexico and Europe, as well as New Orleans. A fusion of jazzy folk and blues on National Reso-Phonic guitars and accordion, with interesting interplay between female and male vocals, their trilingual performances are uplifting, fun, and with a message for people of all ages and cultures.
