Moses, starts its 44th season with the celebrated musical featuring the music of American Icon, Hank Williams, in Hank Williams: Lost Highway. It's a big weekend in Nashville, maybe the biggest ever, thanks to the perfect storm of events and celebrations all across the region. It's CMA Music Festival weekend, Bonnaroo is pulsating some miles down the road (taking most of the attendees through Music City on their way to Manchester) and the Nashville Predators take on a team from Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup Final's sixth game on Sunday night at Bridgestone Arena.

The Lark has announced playwrights Brittany K. Allen and Christina Quintana have been selected as the recipients of the 2017 Van Lier New Voices Fellowship.

The Lark is thrilled to announce that playwrights C.A. Johnson andDonja R. Love have been selected as the recipients of the Van Lier New Voices Fellowship for the 2016-17 season. This year long residency is designed to help address the lack of inclusion of early career playwrights of color in the theater field. Specifically, the Fellowship supports writers of color under 30 and includes a cash award of $15,000, plus a $3,000 health insurance allowance, as well as access to a wide range of Lark resources, including artistic program participation, financial literacy training, office and rehearsal space, and staff support. The 2016-17 cycle marks this Fellowship's third year at The Lark. Past fellows include Reginald Douglas (director: Nikkole Salter's Lines in the Dust at Luna Stage), Anna Moench (Hunger), Christopher Oscar Peña (awe/struck), and Susan Soon He Stanton (The Things Are Against Us). The Van Lier New Voices Fellowship program is a critical component in The Lark's acclaimed portfolio of fellowships, designed to engage a diverse community of extraordinary playwrights who collectively reflect and write about the vibrancy of our world.

Women of the World unite for Milwaukee Rep's poetic, powerful world premiere titled Sirens of Song featuring the musical history through a women's perspective sung through familiar melodies of the 20th century. While the music begins in December 1901 with the Daughters of Freedom, the Stackner Cabaret provides the ultimate setting for Scenic Designer Scott Davis' abandoned clothing shop filled with manikins dressed in period costumes-all surrounded by a grand, gilt broken picture frame where these three actors make their Rep debuts. A revue written by Kevin Ramsey and his niece Pearl Ramsey, the two collaborators weave world events through a century worth of popular music.   "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," is considered to be one of  America's greatest books by today's scholars, and James Rana's world premiere adaptation beautifully captures the humor and heartache in this tale of a boy running away from an abusive father and a slave running away for fear of being sold to a plantation further south.   

Cabaret is set in 1930s Berlin, just around the time the Nazi Party began rising to power in Germany. The Emcee, Sally Bowles and a raucous ensemble take the stage at the Kit Kat Klub nightly to tantalize the crowd, and to leave their troubles outside. But as life in pre-WWII Germany grows more and more uncertain, the club, a metaphor for the threatening state of the late Weimar Germany begins to fall apart.

Russia's profound and far-reaching impact on 20th-century culture will be explored at the 2013 annual Bard SummerScape festival, which once again offers an extraordinary summer of music, opera, theater, dance, film, and cabaret, keyed to the theme of the 24th annual Bard Music Festival, Stravinsky and His World. Presented in the striking Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and other venues on Bard College's bucolic Hudson River campus, the seven-week festival opens on July 6 with the first of two performances of A Rite (2013) by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company, and closes on August 18 with a party in Bard's beloved Spiegeltent, which returns for the full seven weeks. Complementing the Bard Music Festival's exploration of “Stravinsky and His World,” some of the great Russian-born composer's most captivating compatriots provide key SummerScape highlights. These include the first fully-staged American production of Sergey Taneyev's opera Oresteia; the world premiere of an original stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's seminal novel The Master and Margarita; and a film festival titled “Between Traditions: Stravinsky's Legacy and Russian Emigré Cinema.” Together, SummerScape's offerings will continue Bard's yearlong tenth-anniversary celebrations for the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which commence with a month of special performances in April.
