UnsungMusicals Co. announced today its plans for the 2018 season.

From September 12th through the 15th on the Flat Rock Playhouse Mainstage will host the return of Donny Edwards: An Authentic Heart & Soul Tribute to The Kin!.  Edwards packed the houses in Flat Rock in 2015, 2016, 2017 and in 2018 is sure to do the same - just in time for visitors coming into Western North Carolina for the Tryon World Equestrian Games!

Mark Kilmurry, Artistic Director, Ensemble Theatre today announced the 2019 Season which, says Kilmurry, promises to be an exceptional year with six brilliant comedies, three intense dramas and a musical. Three of the plays will be World Premieres, three Australian Premieres and there will be a return season of the sell-out play, DIPLOMACY.

The Wild Project hosts the World Premiere of HOPE, written and performed by Hope Salas. Directed by Erika Latta, previews begin September 22 at The Wild Project with opening night slated for Wednesday, September 26.

As reported yesterday, the Actors' Equity Association has made the decision to change the longstanding ceremony previously known as the 'Gypsy Robe' ceremony, to the 'Legacy Robe.'

Actors' Equity Association has announced that a new name has been chosen for the tradition formerly known as the "Gypsy Robe." Moving forward, the Robe and tradition will be referred to as the "Legacy Robe" - a name chosen by members in a survey.

Venice Theatre is once again turning its Pinkerton Theatre into Pinky's Cabaret for the sixth annual Summer Cabaret Festival with 20 different productions featuring some of the best cabaret acts in the state of Florida. Performances are July 13-Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, with some late night performances. Tickets are $20. Venice Theatre is located at 140 W. Broadway luminaries and Riverdale's most talented performers will join forces for a Gala concert production of the classic musical comedy GUYS AND DOLLS, Frank Loesser's immortal musical fable of Broadway. The one-night only gala event will be held at the Riverdale YM-YWHA on Sunday, June 17, 2018, and will begin at 4:00pm. The performance and honoree ceremony will be preceded by a cocktail hour and entertainment by the award-winning Riverdale Rising Stars youth theatre company.

The New York City Opera has announced two new productions which will premiere during its 75th Anniversary season at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater.

If you can't get enough of operas, symphonic concerts and a few musical theatre pieces thrown in for good measure, have I got a summer for you! Start in New York City and head north--almost around the corner, or a weekend (or more) away--and you'll find more than enough to keep you happy during the sultry weather ahead. (Even if it doesn't turn out quite so sultry…) It covers the gamut from Handel to Puccini, from serial podcasts to light opera, from dramma serio to musical comedy, with an added emphasis on Leonard Bernstein as the music world celebrates his 100th birthday.

Old world musical theatre charm returns to the stage with the 60th Anniversary Concert presentation of LOLA MONTEZ THE MUSICAL. 

Sometimes a character stands out from the source material and starts to establish its own reputation. Actors start to circle the part and gauge if and when they might get a crack at it. For men, in straight non-musical plays, Hamlet, Macbeth, Willy Loman, Stanley Kowalski, are a few that have achieved iconic status. Specifically black characters? The list is shorter: Walter Younger in A Raisin in the Sun would be one. There have been other plays and roles of note, but not until you get to August Wilson do you find a greater repository of suitable candidates.

Opera Saratoga's Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson announced that the company's 2018 Summer Festival will feature new productions of four operas at The Spa Little Theatre in Spa State Park, along with a wide variety of free and ticketed concert events from May 26 through July 15 at venues throughout the region.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. Enrollment is open until June 17 and fans can sign up for the course at musicals.tcm.com.

Sarasota Opera's Da Capo Society, the only young patrons group, ages 21 - 45, dedicated to a single arts organization in Sarasota, will host The Wizard of Oz themed costume contest Thursday, June 7th at 6pm to celebrate the launch of the new season of "Classic Movies at the Opera House." Launched in 2017, the "Classic Movies at the Opera House" series will occur twice monthly starting Thursday, June 7 and will include timeless films designed to be enjoyed on the big screen in the elegance of the Opera House. Each presentation will begin at 7:30pm.

The award-winning 1950's rock'n'roll musical TEDDY will have its final performance at The Vaults, Waterloo in just two weeks on Saturday 2 June 2018.
