The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic, which recognizes a composer for extraordinary artistic endeavor in the field of new music, has been awarded to South Korean composer Unsuk Chin. One of the world's largest new-music prizes, the Kravis Prize includes $200,000 and a commission to write a work for the New York Philharmonic. Ms. Chin's new orchestral work will receive its World Premiere by the Philharmonic in a future season. Funding for the Kravis Prize comes from a $10 million gift to the New York Philharmonic in 2009 by Henry R. Kravis in honor of his wife, Marie-Josee, for whom the Prize is named. Past Prize winners include Henri Dutilleux, Per Norgard, and Louis Andriessen.

Monday evening, November 12, 2018, 8 p.m., The New York Choral Society and Orchestra (NYCHORAL) will present its first program of the season, MY SHADOW AND MY LIGHT, under the baton of Music Director David Hayes at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. In honor of Veterans Day and in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht, Maestro Hayes has chosen a program that explores how three early 20th-century composers, two British and one American, created works expressing their deeply personal reactions to these profound moments in human history.

'The Girl in the Spider's Web' will premiere at the 13th Rome Film Fest. The festival's opening night film will be 'Bad Times at the El Royale.' Goodman Theatre's commitment to new works and emerging artists continues in its 2018/2019 Season. Today, the Goodman named four Chicago-based writers to its Playwrights Unit-Georgette Kelly, whose play Ballast was featured on The Kilroys List and received the Craig Noel Award for Outstanding New Play; Dianne Nora, a playwright, dramaturg, theater scholar and comedy writer who works in Chicago, Brooklyn and Dublin; Marisela Treviño Orta, semifinalist for the 2018 O'Neill Theater Center National Playwrights Conference and 2019 Kendeda Finalist (Alliance Theatre); and Stacey Rose, whose work has been presented at New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, National Black Theatre and more. The Playwrights Unit, in partnership with Chicago Dramatists, meets bi-monthly to discuss their commissioned plays-in-progress with the Goodman's artistic team. The residency culminates in a public staged reading of each new play in Summer 2019.

The one-man play will have five showings only from July 17 - July 22 and is Part 1 in Fales' new Mormon Boy Trilogy. Performances will be held on Tuesday, July 17 at 7 pm; Thursday, July 19 at 5 pm for a special Twilight Performance; Friday, July 20 at 8 pm; Saturday, July 21 at 5 pm for a second Twilight Performance; and Sunday, July 22 at 2 pm. Rattlestick Playwrights Theater has announced the line-up for performers and post-show facilitators for NEW SONGS NOW, an unplugged concert series taking place July 22 through July 26 at 7:00pm at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.

With a mission to produce one new play by each of its six members, 6NewPlays officially closes up shop this fall with WAKEFIELD by Brian Thorstenson. Inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story of the same name, Wakefield starts at the moment Hawthorne's story ends, when the husband Henry Wakefield returns home after 20 years. Veteran actor Anne Darragh plays Sophia, Henry's wife, alongside Thorstenson as Henry. Erin Mei-Ling Stuart co-directs. Wakefield runs October 5 - 14 at Studio 210 in the Mission. The Atlanta Pride Committee and The LGBT Institute at The National Center for Civil and Human Rights are proud to partner with the Fox Theatre to celebrate the 29th anniversary of the legendary Stonewall Riots, which became a watershed moment for the LGBTQ civil and human rights movement in America. This first-of-its kind event in Atlanta features a comedy show with Wanda Sykes and Tig Notaro at the Fox Theatre today, June 20 at 8 p.m. The celebration continues with a drag show and performance by the legendary rock band Blondie on Friday, June 22 at 8 p.m. at the Fox Theatre. Local LGBTQ advocate and activist Feroza Syed will serve as the emcee for both events.
