Next month, 2018-19 Carnegie Hall Perspectives Artist Michael Tilson Thomas brings to New York the postgraduate Fellows of his Miami-based New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy, which he co-founded more than 30 years ago as the nation's most innovative training ground for the next generation of classical musicians. As Artistic Director, he works with Fellows at the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center to further their artistic and professional development-guiding them according to NWS's experiential curriculum of live performance, hands-on training, and community engagement.

Conductor Michael Tilson Thomas concludes his season-long Perspectives series at Carnegie Hall leading two performances by the New World Symphony, both featuring fellow Perspectivesartist and longtime collaborator pianist Yuja Wang. The first program on Wednesday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage includes the New York premiere of Julia Wolfe's Fountain of Youth (co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall as part of its 125 Commissions Project), Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 5, with Ms. Wang.

A new theatrical adaptation of Mary Shelley's seminal 1818 gothic horror novel Frankenstein is set to depict Shelley onstage, as she unfolds her monstrous tale of creature and creator. Adapted by award-winning writer Rona Munro and co-produced by leading company Selladoor (in the company's tenth anniversary year), Matthew Townshend Productions, Belgrade Theatre Coventry, and Perth Theatre at Horsecross Arts, the production will tour nationwide from 2 September - 30 November 2019. Further dates and casting are yet to be announced.

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce the first show of the 2019 Mainstage Season will be the World Premiere of THE PROMPTER (May 28- June 16) a new comedy by Wade Dooley; directed by Scott Schwartz, Bay Street Theater's Artistic Director. The other two previously announced shows will be the World Premiere of SAFE SPACE, which will now run from June 25 - July 21. This new play is by Alan Fox and will be directed by three-time Tony Award Winner Jack O'Brien (All My Sons, Hairspray, The Coast of Utopia). The third show will be a bold new re-envisioning of Irving Berlin's classic musical ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, (July 30 - August 25) with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, book by Herbert & Dorothy Fields. This production will be directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Bay Street's Frost/Nixon). The casts and creative teams will be announced soon. The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic, which recognizes a composer for extraordinary artistic endeavor in the field of new music, has been awarded to South Korean composer Unsuk Chin. One of the world's largest new-music prizes, the Kravis Prize includes $200,000 and a commission to write a work for the New York Philharmonic. Ms. Chin's new orchestral work will receive its World Premiere by the Philharmonic in a future season. Funding for the Kravis Prize comes from a $10 million gift to the New York Philharmonic in 2009 by Henry R. Kravis in honor of his wife, Marie-Josee, for whom the Prize is named. Past Prize winners include Henri Dutilleux, Per Norgard, and Louis Andriessen.

"The Rounds" by Justin Moriarty is an experimental dance-theatre performance about the US War on Drugs, its soldiers, and its battles. The piece is is a one-act play divided into nine parts that exhibits the internal conflicts associated with individual and communal experiences with addiction and mental illness. Incorporating true stories from the lives of both patients and professionals in the medical industry, "The Rounds" addresses the relationships that exist within the shared struggle of addiction and the desire for recovery. Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival will present the work's New York premiere August 27 to September 9. Jonathan Schwolsky directs.
