Rodriguez Returns to The Granada Theatre The 2018-19 Granada Theatre Concert Series kicks off this summer with the return of Rodriguez and special guest Vera Sola, who will take the stage at The Granada Theatre on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 7:30 pm. Rodriguez is the legendary 1970's singer-songwriter who went from 40 years of obscurity to film and music fame. He was the subject of the 2012 Oscar award-winning documentary, Searching For Sugar Man, which has given Rodriguez worldwide recognition.

Rodriguez began performing in clubs around the city of Detroit in the 1960's. He recorded two studio albums, Cold Fact in 1969 and Coming from Reality in 1971. These compositions went unnoticed in the U.S., but reached folk-rock super stardom status in South Africa, where mistaken rumors circulated that he had perished. In the late 1990s, South African fans finally sought him out, leading to the unanticipated renaissance of his music career. Their story is told in the 2012 Oscar award-winning documentary, Searching For Sugar Man. The film has given Rodríguez a new measure of fame in the U.S. and his music is now reaching audiences worldwide.

Vera Sola is a poet, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, who has spent the majority of her career touring and recording with other artists--for a long while accompanying singer-songwriter Elvis Perkins on the road-and in turn collaborating on film scores and providing soundtracks for theater and performance art. In early 2017, she recorded and released her compositions, beginning with the writing, arrangement and performance all the parts on her first LP 'Shades.'
