The Grand Theatre has announced its 2020/2021 Season. The Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto (MOCA) today shared details of its exhibitions programme for the first part of 2020, featuring new commissions by Carlos Bunga, Shelagh Keeley, and Megan Rooney. An installation by Sarah Sze launches 'The City Is a Collection,' a new exhibition series presenting major contemporary artworks from private art holdings within the Toronto community.

The 23rd Annual QFest, Houston's International LGBTQ Film Festival, will commemorate films of influence and personal inspiration with event appearances including Houston native Jonathan Caouette and Cassandro, the Exotico. The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. BroadwayWorld reported last week that Katherine Helmond, the Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated actress, passed away February 23 of Alzheimer's complications at her home in Los Angeles. She was 89. Today, BroadwayWorld is remembering Helmond with a look back into our photo archives.

On March 30th, The Museum at Bethel Woods, located at the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival, will open for the 2019 season and mark the 50th Anniversary with the Special Exhibit We Are Golden: Reflections on the 50th Anniversary of The Woodstock Festival & Aspirations for a Peaceful Future, part of A Season of Song and Celebration. This exhibit examines the desires of the youth of 1969, places the legendary festival within the context of the positive societal changes it inspired and asks today's youth what THEY are asking of the world now.

This Monday, February 11 marks the 50th Anniversary – to the day – when, in response to the assassination of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the lack of opportunities for people of color to train and perform classical ballet, former New York City Ballet dancer Arthur Mitchell – the first black dancer to be elevated to Principal – created, along with Karel Shook, the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Originally conceived and opened as a classical ballet school for the children in his Harlem neighborhood in 1969, Mr. Mitchell soon formed a performance company drawing from the students trained in the school. Led by his passion and determination, the DTH School and Company thrive today and we celebrate their vision and legacy for a classical ballet company for all.

The Shakespeare Theatre Association (STA) annual conference came to Prague this year. It has an extensive performance program, crafted by host Guy Roberts and Prague Shakespeare Company, that was open to the public as well as conference attendees. The conference was all about bringing the focus back to the artistic sides of things, as theatre tries to compete in a world filled with on-demand entertainment.

Following the recent news that a fire had destroyed the entire set of their touring production on New Year's Eve, London Classic Theatre are pleased to announce that the extension of the UK tour of Charlotte Keatley's My Mother Said I Never Should will go ahead as planned. Kathryn Ritchie returns to play Jackie Metcalfe and will be joined by Rebecca Birch (Rosie Metcalfe), Lisa Burrows (Margaret Bradley) and Judith Paris (Doris Partington). Artistic Director of LCT, Michael Cabot, directs the production, which tours to a further 14 venues in 2019. The tour starts at New Theatre Royal Portsmouth on 6 February, with performances in Newtown, Ipswich, Doncaster, Middlesbrough, Richmond, Derby, Poole, Winchester, Worthing, Epsom, Swansea and Oldham before concluding at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford in April. Press night will take place on Wednesday 27 February at Richmond Theatre.

Over 50 prominent musical artists, including Dave Matthews, Peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford, have come together to record a tribute to Johnny Clegg, a true South African legend who has made and continues to make an indelible mark on music history. Last night, the recording was revealed to Johnny Clegg at Ellerman House in Cape Town, South Africa.

Composer, Conductor and Educator Tania Leon has been elected as a new member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in the category of Visual Arts and Performing Arts - Criticism and Practice along with other noted and distinguished artists. (See list below). Ms. Leon will be inducted in to the Academy this weekend, October 5th in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Firehouse Theatre and Daily Planet Health Services (DPHS) are partnering to raise awareness about mental health during the run of the Firehouse Theatre production of Douglas Jones' play SONGS FROM BEDLAM.

As part of the "Ailey Ascending" 60th Anniversary celebration, the Choreography Unlocked Festival of performance, conversation, and master classes will take place at Ailey's home across two weekends - October 12 - 14 & 26- 28. Building on the success of the New Directions Choreography Lab, created by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Robert Battle in 2011, the festival will elevate The Joan Weill Center for Dance's role in the community as a hub for creating and presenting new work and fostering the next generation of choreographers.
