The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) is pleased to announce its fall season of theater and dance performances and residencies. The DCASE Theater and Dance series presents critically-acclaimed local, national and international music, theater, dance and multidisciplinary artists, newly commissioned works and Chicago premieres.

The Michael Schimmel Center for the Performing Arts at Pace University today announced its 2013|2014 Pace Presents Season, under the Executive Direction of Martin I. Kagan, is a world-class performing arts series with an emphasis on music superstars from around the globe, charismatic and innovative dance performances, stunning opera stars in recital and spectacular contemporary cabaret. The Pace Presents season begins on September 21 with a big band tribute to the late, great lounge legend Esquivel from Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica, culminating onJune 1 with the reunion performance of Tina Croll and Jamie Cunningham'sdance/theatre piece From the Horse's Mouth.

Andris Liepa, former Bolshoi Ballet star turned ballet entrepreneur, is to return to the London Coliseum with his company Les Saisons Russes du XX1e Siecle from today, July 16th to July 20th 2013.

The JAPAN CUTS: The New York Festival of Contemporary Japanese Cinema returns for its seventh season, with 10 days of screenings and over 20 titles. JAPAN CUTS 2013 presents the roughest, sharpest, and smoothest of today's cutting-edge Japanese film scene, encompassing bigger-than-life blockbusters, high-concept art house titles, moving and provoking documentaries, delirious rom-coms, refined melodramas and a handful of UFOs-unidentified film objects. Featuring appearances by several special guest filmmakers, JAPAN CUTS 2013 kicks off July 11 with a blowout opening night party and runs through July 21, screening 25 titles, all of which are a mix of New York, U.S. and International premieres. The festival again dovetails with the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which co-presents 12 films of the JAPAN CUTS lineup today, July 11-14.

SECRETS dramatizes the intense personal & professional relationship between Sigmund Freud & Carl Gustav Jung in the early years of psychoanalysis, 1907 - 1913 & is based on the 1000 letters shared by both men.

In One Woman in a Hundred (University of Illinois Press, 2013), author Mary Sue Welsh shares the remarkable biography of harpist Edna Phillips (1907-2003), who joined the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1930. Phillips was not only the Philadelphia Orchestra's first female member, but also the first woman to hold a principal position in any major orchestra in America.

The Drama Desk nominated MARVELL REP will present its Winter 2013 Repertory Project, Desire & Delusion: 3 plays in repertory, from February 8 - March 17, at TBG Theatre, 312 West 36th Street. The project will feature the company's first World Premiere, NIGHT GAMES, a new play written & directed by MARVELL REP Artistic Director, Lenny Leibowitz (February 8-March 6), adapted from the novella Spiel im Morgengrauen, by Arthur Schnitzler. NIGHT GAMES will be followed (in repertory) by SECRETS, The Untold Story of Sigmund Freud & Carl Jung, an original play written & directed by Ken Wydro (February 11-March 10) & FLIRTATION written by Arthur Schnitzler& also directed by Lenny Leibowitz (February 19 - March 17, 2013).

Russia's profound and far-reaching impact on 20th-century culture will be explored at the 2013 annual Bard SummerScape festival, which once again offers an extraordinary summer of music, opera, theater, dance, film, and cabaret, keyed to the theme of the 24th annual Bard Music Festival, Stravinsky and His World. Presented in the striking Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and other venues on Bard College's bucolic Hudson River campus, the seven-week festival opens on July 6 with the first of two performances of A Rite (2013) by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company, and closes on August 18 with a party in Bard's beloved Spiegeltent, which returns for the full seven weeks. Complementing the Bard Music Festival's exploration of “Stravinsky and His World,” some of the great Russian-born composer's most captivating compatriots provide key SummerScape highlights. These include the first fully-staged American production of Sergey Taneyev's opera Oresteia; the world premiere of an original stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's seminal novel The Master and Margarita; and a film festival titled “Between Traditions: Stravinsky's Legacy and Russian Emigré Cinema.” Together, SummerScape's offerings will continue Bard's yearlong tenth-anniversary celebrations for the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which commence with a month of special performances in April.

The Jewish Museum and the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present the 22nd annual New York Jewish Film Festival at the Film Society's Walter Reade Theater, Jan. 9-24, 2013. The festival's 45 features and shorts from 9 countries - 23 screening in their world, U.S. or New York premieres - provide a diverse global perspective on the Jewish experience. Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, has announced that the personal correspondence, manuscripts and first edition books from the brilliant scientists that shaped and formed our understanding of the universe will be included in their December 18th auction, The Property of a Distinguished American Private Collector. Part I of The Property of a Distinguished American Private Collector will include 300 of the most important items in the collection. The entire collection has over 3,000 items and will be sold over the next two years.
