Until director Stephen Daldry rediscovered J.B. Priestley's 'An Inspector Calls,' it had been relegated to dull British backwaters as ho-hum sub-Agatha Christie drawing room fare.

by Vince Vicentuan - Nov 22, 2018

Imagine yourself in a small room where you can watch people in their most unguarded moments and listen to their innermost, basest desires without any burden or worry of getting caught… Imagine yourself doing what you love doing with no cares for time and space… Imagine yourself in a dressing room where the ethereal meets the corporal, and the objects of your voyeuristic eyes are actresses prepping up for their roles prior to their cues on stage.

BWW Review: MTW First Regional Look at BRIGHT STAR
by Don Grigware - Oct 23, 2018

Steve Martin's and Edie Brickell's Bright Star played Broadway in 2016. The show fared somewhat well, but did not seem to be an overall critics' choice. On the minus side, it is an all too familiar story about a backwoods pregnant girl and parental abuse in the 1920s, with far-fetched resolutions and a sweet, but for many, saccharine ending. In spite of this, I was delighted with the bluegrass music by Martin and Brickell.

Jeremy Lawrence Brings Award-winning Play With Music LAVENDER SONGS Back To Pangea
by Stephi Wild - Sep 27, 2018

Jeremy Lawrence, best-known for creating and starring in several one-man shows which explore Tennessee Williams in the playwright's own words, revives his acclaimed play with music 'LAVENDER SONGS: A QUEER WEIMAR BERLIN CABARET' which features songs performed or written by queer and Jewish kabarettists of the era in English versions by Jeremy Lawrence. Lawrence, as his alter ego Tante Fritzi, invites the audience into his edgy, gender-bender, sexy world. It is a chilling evocation of the subversive world of Berlin's cabarets and a celebration of the daring of its Jewish and queer artists who continued to mock and deride the ever-lengthening shadow of fascism for as long as they could. 'Lavender Songs,' directed by Jason Jacobs, stars Jeremy Lawrence as 'Tante Fritzi' with Ariela Bohrod at the piano. Performances are Mondays, October 22, 29 and November 5 at 7 PM at Pangea, 178 Second Avenue (between 11th and 12th Streets.) There is a $20 cover charge with a $20 food/drink minimum. Reservations can be made at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3596340

BWW Review: ON YOUR FEET! Pulsates with High-Energy Rhythms at Segerstrom Center
by Michael Quintos - Aug 27, 2018

I believe the best way to describe the sensation one gets when experiencing the Broadway stage musical adaptation of multi-platinum selling recording artist Gloria Estefan's life story is to actually use one of her very famous songs: "The Rhythm is Gonna Get You." That is exactly what happens to an ecstatic audience in attendance of ON YOUR FEET!, the infectiously high-energy 2015 jukebox musical chronicling the professional and personal lives of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, arguably the Latin music world's most successful power couple responsible for bringing their Miami-honed Cuban-fusion sounds to worldwide acclaim. After a year on the road, the musical has finally made its way to Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts, where it continues its two-week engagement in Costa Mesa through September 2.
