Stage Directors & Choreographers Foundation Announces Annual Gala

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the independent, not-for-profit affiliate of SDC, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, today announced unique plans for its 2019 award evening, which will feature original choreographic pieces resulting from a special commissioning program, with the application period now open. SDCF also announced that Victoria Traube would receive a special 'Mr. Abbott' Award at the event, to be held March 25 at the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF).

Encompass New Opera Theatre Announces Cast For World Premiere Of ANNA CHRISTIE

Encompass New Opera Theatre will present the world premiere of Anna Christie with music by Edward Thomas set to a libretto by Joseph Masteroff, beginning on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 8pm, running through Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the Baruch Performing Arts Center (at 55 Lexington Avenue, entrance on 25th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenues). 

First Major Revival of Leonard Bernstein's PETER PAN Launches Bard SummerScape

On August 25 this year, Leonard Bernstein would have celebrated his 100th birthday. To honor this centennial, the 2018 Bard SummerScape festival launches with the first major revival of the composer's Peter Pan. Commissioned from Olivier Award-winning director and Bernstein specialist Christopher Alden, and presented complete in an intimate new chamber arrangement, Bard's new production is the only one of Bernstein's theatrical works to be staged in the New York area during the centenary year. Alden's psychologically gripping treatment reveals the childhood fantasy's darker side, combining new choreography from Jack Ferver, with Bernstein's joyous, shimmering score. By turns whimsical and sinister, the production's cast is led by William Michals as Captain Hook,  Peter Smith as Peter Pan, Erin Markey, as Wendy, and Ferver as Tinker Bell.

The Broadway cast of Jimmy Buffett's 'Escape to Margaritaville' added their own flavor to Rodgers & Hammerstein, celebrating the 75th Anniversary of 'Oklahoma!' with a very Buffett version of 'Surrey with the Fringe on Top,' complete with an appearance by Jimmy Buffett himself. Jelani Alladin (Kristoff), Greg Hildreth (Olaf), John Riddle (Hans) and the entire cast of the new Broadway hit Frozen surprised the sold-out house at the St. James Theatre this afternoon with a tribute to Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic musical Oklahoma!, which opened at the St. James Theatre 75 years ago today, on March 31, 1943.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) today proudly announced that Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes, stars of television, film and stage and Sid and Marty Krofft, two legendary television producers, will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards this year during the Daytime Emmy® Awards.  The Krofft Brothers will be celebrated at the 45th Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards which will take place on Friday, April 27th, 2018, while Bill Hayes and Susan Seaforth Hayes will be celebrated on Sunday, April 29th, 2018 at the 45th Daytime Emmy® Awards.  Both presentations will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Southern California.

This morning, BWW reported the sad news that Florence Henderson has passed away at the age of 82. Best known for her work on The Brady Bunch, Henderson was also a veteran of the stage. She made her Broadway debut at the age of 18 and played Laurey in the 1953 revival of Oklahoma! at City Center as well as the title role of Fanny at the Majestic Theatre in 1954. She also played Maria on the 1st National Tour of The Sound of Music, Anna in The King and I in Los Angeles in 1965, as well as Nellie Forbush in the 1967 Lincoln Centre production of South Pacific.

Waterwell announced today the revival of the Blueprint Specials, a series of lost WWII-era musicals composed principally by Broadway legend Frank Loesser to be presented in association with the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival. The production will star Tony Award nominees Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde) and Will Swenson (Hair) and be directed by Drama Desk nominee Tom Ridgely.

In the upcoming revival of Leonard Bernstein's 1953 classic, Lauren Molina plays a young woman who dreams of making it big in New York City. In reality, she's swapped the Big Apple for the Windy City to star in Tony Award-winner Mary Zimmerman's production of Wonderful Town, premiering at the Goodman this September. Though portraying an aspiring actress, Molina has already belted Sondheim on the Broadway stage and tours as one-half of a popular musical duo.
