PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra presents “Neighborhood Week,” an entire week of classical orchestral and chamber music in some of Pittsburgh's most beloved locales. Guest conductor Krzysztof Urba?ski, music director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, makes his debut with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra during this subscription weekend. He leads a program that includes the Pittsburgh premiere of Prokofiev's Russian Overture, a solo by Concertmaster Noah Bendix-Balgley in a concerto by Khachaturian, and Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's “Pictures at an Exhibition,” a piece originally written for solo piano that is now one of the great orchestral works.

Stage and screen legend Julie Andrews returns for the sixth time to host the festive annual New Year's celebration with the Vienna Philharmonic, under the direction of Zubin Mehta, from Vienna's Musikverein.

The Brevard Music Center (BMC) will open its 2015 season on Saturday, June 20, with superstar pianist André Watts and BMC Principal Guest Conductor JoAnn Falletta in an all-Beethoven program. Watts burst upon the music world at the age of 16 when Leonard Bernstein chose him to make his debut with the New York Philharmonic. He has since enjoyed a celebrated 50 year career that has taken him across the globe to concertize with major orchestras and perform in the world's musical capitals. Watts has played before European royalty and international heads of government and has received the Avery Fisher Prize, the National Medal of Arts, and was the youngest person ever to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Yale University. André Watts will perform Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto with Maestra Falletta and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra on a program to include Leonore Overture No. 3 and the Seventh Symphony. The season concludes on Sunday, August 2, as Maestro Lockhart and the BMCO perform Mahler's powerful Symphony No. 1 – “The Titan.”

The Brevard Music Center (BMC) will open its 2014 season tonight, June 21, with the Music Center debut of one of the true superstars of classical music - violinist Itzhak Perlman.

The Night Alive, written by Conor McPherson, recently took home the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (NYDCC) for Best Play of the 2012-2013 season. All the Way, written by Robert Schenkkan received the award for Best American Play. A Fun Home received the award for Best Musical. The awards were presented at a cocktail reception on Friday, May 16, at 54 Below.

Marin County Singer, Actor, and Writer Noah Griffin is pleased to announce the establishment of The Cole Porter Society, a non-profit organization that aims to preserve the musical legacy of Cole Porter by working with music departments in schools and universities to introduce students to the composer and the importance of his music to the shaping and understanding of American culture. A concert celebrating the new non-profit, An Evening of Cole Porter, will take place on Friday, February 28 at 8pm at the Barn Theater, 30 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Ross, CA 94957. The Brevard Music Center (BMC) will open its 2014 season on Saturday, June 21, with the Music Center debut of one of the true superstars of classical music – violinist Itzhak Perlman. A Kennedy Center Honoree and multiple Grammy winner, Perlman's 50-year career has included performances with the world's top orchestras, television and film appearances, and concerts for heads of state including Queen Elizabeth II and President Obama. Perlman will join BMC Artistic Director Keith Lockhart and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra for an evening of his most well-loved works from film, television and classical repertoire.
