Music Institute Presents Sergei Babayan, Louis Armstrong Legacy Concert, and More in 16-17 Season

The Music Institute of Chicago announces the 2016-17 season of its Faculty and Guest Artist Series, showcasing noteworthy keyboard artists, illustrious alumni, and the legacy of Louis Armstrong. All but one of the concerts take place at the historic Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue in downtown Evanston. In March, the Music Institute presents one special performance at its partner venue, Fourth Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Chestnut Street in downtown Chicago.
Voices Carry Presents World Premiere of STRINGS ATTACHED

Voices Carry, Inc. will present the World Premiere of Strings Attached, a multidisciplinary project, involving contemporary dance, abstract puppetry, an original score, and performance art, for two weekends opening on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles in Downtown LA. The work, which has been in development for three years, is a window into the human capacity to love, with a focus on the universal feelings of grief, forgiveness, devotion, entrapment, and joy. Voices Carry, a nonprofit corporation guided by Artistic Director Madeline Leavitt, is dedicated to breaking down cultural barriers and embracing diversity through dance, theatre, and performance art.

Great stories give voice to great music - and the musical connection between Broadway and Opera has long fascinated and entertained audiences. In 1900 the theatrical success of David Belasco's play “Madame Butterfly: A Tragedy of Japan” led to Giacomo Puccini's 1904 grand opera “Madama Butterfly,” which re-emerged in 1988 as David Henry Hwang's Broadway hit and Tony Award winning play “M. Butterfly. “ When Jonathan Larson's musical “Rent” opened in 1996 to rave reviews, audiences and critics loved the homage to Puccini's “La Boehme.”

Although the BLUE MAN GROUP has already toured the world twice via its 'Complex World Tour' (2003) and 'How to Be a Megastar Tour 2.0' (2008-2009), these previous engagements, which featured other performing artists Tracy Bonham and DJ Mike Relm, were meant to promote the group's albums and not the immersive theatrical experience these iconic Blue Men are known for.
