Rachelle Ann Go (as Gigi) and Devin Ilaw (as Thuy) have joined the cast of Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Boublil and Schonberg's legendary musical MISS SAIGON, which begins performances Wednesday, March 1 at The Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway). Directed by Laurence Connor (LES MISERABLES, School of Rock), the Broadway return of MISS SAIGON will feature its American stars, Jon Jon Briones as The Engineer and 20-year-old Eva Noblezada as Kim, who created their roles in the West End to great acclaim. Opening night for MISS SAIGON will be Thursday, March 23. MISS SAIGON will play a limited engagement through January 14, 2018 before launching a North American tour later in the year.

Happy Birthday Claude-Michel Schonberg! Schonberg is best known for his collaborations with the lyricist Alain Boublil. Thier stage musical version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, which opened at the Palais de Sports in Paris in 1980, opened to acclaim in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987. In 1989, their success continued with the musical Miss Saigon, which starred Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce. Schonberg's next project with Boublil was The Pirate Queen, a musical about the 16th century Irish pirate, chieftain and adventuress Grace O'Malley, which opened on Broadway on April 5 2007.

This summer, NYMF will be on quest to save Paradise one Scrabble tile at a time. The new musical, The Last Word will be presented at the Duke on 42nd Street, a NEW 42ND STREET project (229 W 42nd St) . The Last Word is written by Brett Sullivan (Billy Elliot Live Film Director) and will be directed by Michael Bello (Doctor Zhivago), choreography by Nick Kenkel (Gotta Dance, Legally Blonde) and Musical Supervisor is Conrad Helfrich (Dirty Dancing).  It will begin performances on July 22 and will run through July 29, 2016. The 70th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 12th at 8/9c hosted by James Corden. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. Claude-Michel Schonberg has been named as the next Cameron Mackintosh Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre, based at St Catherine's College at the University of Oxford.  He will succeed Simon Russell Beale in October 2016.

Today in 1991, Miss Saigon opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 4092 performances. Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The musical premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London on 20 September 1989, closing after over four thousand performances, on 30 October 1999.The musical represented Schonberg and Boublil's second major success, following Les Miserables in 1985.
