The Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical, A Night with Janis Joplin is a musical journey celebrating Janis Joplin and the genesis of her musical genius through encounters with her seminal musical influences - Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith. After each encounter, we hear an explosive Joplin song incorporating those who inspired her into what became her legendary rock & roll style.

The Signature Theatre (Paige Evans, Artistic Director; James Houghton, Founder) Annual Gala will take place on Monday, March 12, 2018 at The Pershing Square Signature Center (located at 480 West 42nd Street between 9th & 10th Avenues). The event will celebrate the late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee and honor the passionate and visionary leadership of former President of the Signature Board of Trustees, Michael Rauch. Legendary ballet costume designer HOLLY HYNES and costume and scenic designer ZACK BROWN are among the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients which were just announced by TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. Ms. Hynes was selected to receive the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Brown will receive the Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through TDF's Costume Collection. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, April 20, at 6:30pm, at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street).

Joseph V. Melillo, executive producer of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, today announced programming for the BAM 2018 Winter/Spring Season. Starz announced today it is developing the action-drama series under the working title 'Black Samurai' with Jerry Bruckheimer Television starring Academy Award(R) winner Common (John Wick 2, Suicide Squad, Selma), who will also executive produce under his Freedom Road Productions banner. Wu-Tang Clan's RZA (Kill Bill 1 & 2, American Gangster, 'Gang Related') and Mitchell Diggs will also executive produce for Wu Films.

The late, great playwright Edward Albee is curating his legacy posthumously via "dead hand control."

The New York Times is reporting that Albee's museum-worthy collection of fine art, which includes works by Arp, Kandinsky, and more, will be sold at auction. The money will then be donated to The Edward Albee Foundation, an institution that provides residency to emerging artists in Montauk. The collection is valued at over $9 million.
