Ragtime On Ellis Island just announced that Tony Award winner and Original Broadway cast member Brian Stokes Mitchell (Shuffle Along, Man of La Mancha) and acclaimed stage and television star Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening, Les Miserables) have joined the lineup of the highly anticipated site-specific developmental concert on Monday, August 8. The all-star cast, directed by Sammi Cannold (Violet on a moving bus at A.R.T; Assistant Director for Diane Paulus & Rachel Chavkin), will perform a selection of songs from the Tony Award-winning musical that features music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and a book by Terrence McNally. The concert is being presented by Suzanne Friedman with an eye towards an immersive, full production of the acclaimed American musical on Ellis Island in 2017.

The Actors Fund's Annual Jock Duncan Celebri-TEE Golf & Tennis Outing will take place on Monday, July 25, 2016 at the historic Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly, New Jersey. Attendees will join Golf Chair Peter Gallagher (The O.C., Covert Affairs, On the 20th Century) and Tennis Chair Norm Lewis (The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, Scandal) for summer sport to raise funds in support of The Actors Fund's Lillian Booth Actors Home.

Philadelphia Theatre Company presents the 2016 PTC@Play Festival of New Work celebrating the American playwright in Philadelphia on March 3-6 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre.  The festival will present staged readings showcasing three new plays by national and local talent including new work by Mark St. Germain, Philadelphia playwright Sam Henderson, and playwright/performer Rinne Groff.  A new addition to PTC@Play will be an evening of short plays, all written and rehearsed within one twenty-four hour period.  All events are free.

Northlight Theatre Sets 42nd Season

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, announces its 42nd season, including three World Premieres and two Midwest Premieres.  The season kicks off with the Midwest Premiere of Anthony Giardina's political family drama The City of Conversation, critically acclaimed and currently in development as a miniseries for F/X. The season continues with the World Premiere of the charmingly imagined sequel to Pride and Prejudice, Miss Bennet by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, followed by the World Premiere of Faceless by emerging playwright Selina Fillinger, and the Midwest Premiere of By the Water by Sharyn Rothstein, winner of the prestigious 2015 Primus Prize. Closing out the season is the World Premiere of Relativity by Mark St. Germain, the prolific playwright behind the long-running Freud's Last Session.

August Strindberg Repertory to Stage DAMASCUS II, 3/12-4/2

 From March 12 to April 2, August Strindberg Repertory will present Strindberg's 'Damascus II,' adapted by Edgar Chisholm, directed by Robert Greer. This is the second installment of the three-part work in which Strindberg first introduced true surrealism to the stage in the theatrical representation of the dream. Strindberg's tale of life in decadent artists' circles of 1890s Sweden will be brought to life in 1960s California and its leading character, an alienated writer, has been re-envisioned as an author modeled on Amiri Baraka.

In creating a theater piece about Mata Hari, the Dutch-born actress Eva Dorrepaal (www.evadorrepaal.com) found that she shared one quality with the infamous World War I-era spy:  an addiction to dangerous love.  The truth is, you could probably find more similarities if you dig farther, but this is the idea behind her solo show, 'Almost Mata Hari - Lovers, Letters and Killers,' whose premiere run will be presented by Theater for the New City January 7 to 24.

As millions of the faithful around the world light the last candles of their menorahs, we take a look at a handful of musical moments that have a decidedly Jewish flair. On the last night of Hanukkah, we want to celebrate some of our favorite Broadway tunes about the faith while honoring the contributions of our immensely talented Jewish legends who have helped mold the American musical into what it is today. Therefore, we have selected eight Jewish-themed showtunes for the occasion. You can watch a video of each below, along with an incredible film about the importance of Jewish writers to the history of the musical theatre.
